Hours of work:35 hours per week


Who we are:

Legal Services provides high quality responsive legal services to the Regional Corporation including Regional Council, its executives and officers and program managers and to related boards and agencies including Peel Living and The Peel Police Services Board.


What you will do in this role:

We are looking for an experienced Legal Assistant to join our Legal Services team


In this role you will provide legal administrative and office administrative support to Deputy Regional Solicitor, Senior Legal Counsel, Legal Counsel and Law Clerks within the Property Law Team.


  • Organize and maintain a high volume of legal files
  • Coordinate and monitor file activity, independently and as directed; screen incoming correspondence and respond or prepare draft responses; initiate and maintain followup
  • Organize meetings and maintain solicitors' calendars
  • Develop and maintain collaborative internal and external working relationships to obtain necessary information to assist with responding to requests and inquiries
  • Compile and maintain data records as directed
  • Maintain and operate a docket keeping system, prepare journal entries and internal chargebacks
  • Take/transcribe dictation of a confidential/technical nature, prepare high quality correspondence, reports, bylaws, memos, opinions, briefing notes, conduct title searches using Teraview and preparation of closing documentation for real estate transactions including but not limited to requisition letters, declarations, acknowledgement and directions
  • Manage purchasing and document execution procedures
  • Prepare purchase orders and related documentation
  • Coordination of records for Region leases/licenses and Regionowned facilities
  • Prepare real estate documents, bylaws, reports and other documents and correspondence
  • Data collection and recording and tracking for Region capital projects for lien searching; assist with expropriations as required

What the role requires:


  • Postsecondary education in legal office administration
  • Minimum of five years relevant real estate experience in a law office
  • Familiarity with real estate processes and municipal law and documentation
  • Combination of education and experience may be considered

Skills/Abilities:


  • Proficient dictation and word processing skills, combined with a keen sense of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong computer skills, utilizing MS Office to be able to deal with multiple tasks and priorities
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

In this role you will have the ability to work remotely and attend on-site when required based on operational requirements at the 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton
_ _worksite. The frequency of on-site activities may vary on a weekly basis and based on operational requirements. Your remote work location must be located within the province of Ontario.
