Position Overview:
The IT Support Technician is responsible and accountable for the provision of effective accurate and timely end user device support services for The City of Prince Albert.
Principle Duties & Responsibilities:
Key Duties:
Service/Support
- Respond in a timely manner as the first point of contact for IT issues and support of personal computers, workstations, printers, peripherals, telephone systems, and cellular devices.
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain software and hardware systems to ensure all programs and technology runs smoothly for employees.
- Liaise with both business and infrastructure systems team members to assist in resolving problems with software products or City software systems.
- Develop and maintain user manuals and standard operating procedures.
- Train users to operate new or modified programs.
- Maintain, track and execute a schedule for the renewal of existing equipment and devices.
- Image and update laptops and desktops and setup new equipment for users.
- Install, configure, and maintain desktop software systems.
- Maintain and support cellphones, landlines and the City's VOIP telephone system, handsets and related equipment.
- Create and maintain user and mail accounts at all levels of the organization.
- Assist the infrastructure systems team lead in the deployment of network hardware, routing and switching components.
- Maintain current inventory and appropriate control of software licenses.
- Maintain an inventory of parts for workstations, and consumables for printers.
- Research and recommend new software and hardware to support the development of management reports, RFPs and budgeting.
- General Duties
- Follow regulations, acts and policies of Occupational Health & Safety.
- Follow acts, regulations, bylaws, agreements, policies, and procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Qualifications (Education, Training, Experience)
- Degree or Diploma in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent certifications.
- Minimum of three (3) years previous experience in a similar position.
- Valid driver's license.
- CompTIA A+ Certification would be an asset.
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems, Microsoft Windows and Office products.
- Working knowledge of networks.
- Demonstrated understanding of best practices and procedures for the management of end user computing environments.
- Possess excellent organization, communication, documentation skills and analytical and problemsolving skills.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Ability to prioritize and adhere to deadlines.
- Knowledge of and adherence to privacy legislation and policies.
- Ability to function effectively within the City's team of service providers.
- Possess the physical abilities to carry computers, climb step ladders, crawl under desks, etc.
