Child Care Assistant Supervisor Position


JOB DESCRIPTION:


Under direction of the Supervisor and in their absence, assists in the coordination of the daily operations of the Child Care Center; enforces regulations under the Child Care Program guidelines; implements and maintains an appropriate learning environment for the children; and performs related work as required.

For this position, your time will be split in the classroom and in the office.


SCOPE:


The Program Assistant Supervisor assumes responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the centre in accordance with the Ministry of Education regulations and policies set out by the agency.

The Assistant Supervisor is responsible for overseeing program planning, working effectively with staff, working with families and children, connecting with the community, mentoring staff and administrative responsibilities related to the day-to-day operation of the centre.


The Assistant Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership in keeping with the philosophy of the agency while following the guidelines, polices, mission statement and program statement of the agency and will be accountable and responsible for specific projects as assigned.

The Program Assistant Supervisor will work directly with the Program Supervisor, Program Director and collaborate with the Executive Director and Financial Controller when required.


KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Examples of key duties are interpreted as being descriptive and not restrictive in nature. Incumbents routinely perform approximately 80% of the duties below._
  • Implements Provincial licensing regulations for the Childcare Center.
  • Ensures the Childcare Center, rooms and play areas are maintained in a clean, orderly, and safe condition.
  • Oversees implementation of daily food program to meet children's nutritional needs; ensures that substitutions are provided for children with dietary restrictions; posts and trains staff on child food allergies and how to accommodate children with allergies.
  • Maintains appropriate staff level to accommodate children enrolled in the program in accordance with regulations. Assist with the implementation and supervision of all policies and producers related to the childcare programs
  • Provides information to parents concerning their children's development, abilities, and areas of concern; explains program procedures and classroom activities as requested.
  • Monitors family enrollment to ensure reporting procedures for the Childcare Center's attendance and fiscal information is accurate. Monthly attendance is verified and submitted in a timely manner to Toronto Children's Services.
  • Oversees parent-teacher conferences in accordance with program regulations.
  • Monitors teachers to ensure quality of teaching methods and support for program goals. Ensure that all areas of quality assurance including any program assessments, rating scales and developmental screenings for the children in care are completed annually within the centre
  • Advises parents on program services and provides referrals to community agencies.
  • Reports incidents of suspected child abuse to proper authorities.
  • Plans and coordinates staff meetings to promote ongoing communication.
  • Works in classrooms as a teacher on an as needed basis.
  • Responsible for hiring, scheduling staff when needed due absences.
  • Follow all Toronto Public Health guidelines and regulations, ensures that all staff are following the guidelines, including kitchen staff.
  • Ensures all staff are aware of changes to AQI, meet and exceed all AQI requirements, maintain quality in all programs by following the requirements of the AQI and ensuring the same for all programs.
  • Maintain waitlist from Children's Services on a monthly basis, ensure vacancies are filled by following the child care center's waitlist policy.
  • Maintain children's files on an ongoing basis.
  • Responsible for staff behaviours and actions. Ensure all staff know and abide by the child care centers policies.
  • Follow direction from Program coordinator and Child care Director.
  • Conduct staff meetings on a monthly basis. As a group and in individual rooms.
  • Mentor staff when needed.
  • Be professional at all times.
Program Delivery

  • Responsible for the supervision and evaluation of all activities pertaining to the centre of operating, in accordance with Ministry of Education regulations
  • Remain uptodate on all revisions and modifications to the Ministry of Education and College of Early Childhood Educators regulations
  • Promote "How Does Learning Happen?" to all staff members and families utilizing the centre
  • Manage all activities related to the Team Members in the centre, in consultation with the Program Supervisor, Program Director and Executive Director
  • Act as a liaison between the agency, staff member and parents
