This process will be used to staff positions in the following two (2) streams:

STREAM 1:
Monitoring and Compliance Officer


As a temporary opportunity, the Monitoring and Compliance Officer does not require attendance in the office; remote work is permitted.


STREAM 2:
Review Officer

The review and dispute resolution officers within the Office of Canadian Ombudsperson for Responsible Enterprise (CORE) play a crucial role in supporting and providing dispute resolution processes including mediation and investigation for allegations of human rights abuses arising from the operations abroad of Canadian companies in the garment, mining, and oil and gas sectors.


These positions offer the opportunity to work on emerging business and human rights issues and to build relationships with different clients and stakeholders.

Work environment:


The Canadian Ombudsperson for Responsible Enterprise (CORE) is an ombud institution with a business and human rights focus, the first of its kind in Canada and the world.

Individuals, communities and groups can submit complaints to the CORE about possible human rights abuses arising from the overseas operations of Canadian garment, mining, and oil and gas companies, and the CORE will work with the complainant and the company to resolve issues and will make recommendations to remedy any harms caused.


Please note that this position requires a physical presence in the office; part time attendance is required at this time.

The operational needs of the CORE do not allow for full-time telework.

EDUCATION - Streams 1 and 2:
Secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/ experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE - Streams 1 and 2:
E1.

Approximately two (2) years of experience writing documents such as reports or briefing notes that analyze conflicting facts or information and make conclusions.

E2. Approximately two (2) years of experience providing written or verbal recommendations to management or decision-makers.

E3. Experience working collaboratively with stakeholders.

Experience - stream - Monitoring and Compliance officer:
E1.

Approximately one (1) year of experience monitoring, analysing or reporting qualitative and quantitative data gathered from multiple or conflicting sources.


Experience - stream - Review Officer:
E1. Approximately one (1) year of experience conducting investigations.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS - Streams 1 and 2:
AED1.

Master degree in human rights, politics, international development, international human rights law, public policy, or a field related to the position.

Degree equivalency

AE1.

Experience working in an ombud office, national or regional human rights institution or oversight body, or human rights non-governmental organization.

AE2.

Experience working with under-served communities including but not limited to (such as language minorities, Indigenous peoples, LGBT2Q+, migrant workers, ethnic minorities, or racialized persons).

AE3. Experience working internationally or with an international organization or body.

AE4. Experience working in the area of Indigenous Peoples' rights.

AE5. Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team.

AE6. Experience communicating with clients, colleagues or stakeholders in languages other than English or French.

AE7. Experience monitoring, auditing or reporting on compliance with recommendations, policies, procedures, standards, regulations or laws.
