    Description

    Under the general direction of the Manager of Engineering Services, this position is primarily responsible for assisting in the administration of the Town's projects. The Engineering Technician will be responsible for the inspection of Town infrastructure, assets, and Town operated facilities throughout the Town of Paradise to ensure adherence to all applicable codes and standards, including but not limited to Town's specifications and the Municipal Water, Sewer and Roads Specifications.

    Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a high school diploma, supplemented by a degree in Civil Engineering with three (3) years of directly related experience or the completion of a post-secondary diploma program in Civil Engineering Technology and five (5) years of related experience.
  • Must be or eligible to be a member of the Association of Engineering Technicians/Technologist of Newfoundland or Professional Engineers and Geoscientist of Newfoundland & Labrador.
  • Knowledge of the Municipal Water, Sewer and Roads Specifications, National Building Code of Canada, Public Procurement Act and Regulations, the Municipalities Act of 1999, the Town's Engineering Guidelines and Development Regulations and Guidelines for the Design, Construction and Operation of Water and Sewerage Systems is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with the public with tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Previous project management and/or construction experience.
  • High level of organizational and problem-solving skills is required.
  • A good working knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office is required.
  • Experience using XPSWMM is an asset.
  • Previous surveying experience is an asset.
  • Previous experience in the design, rehabilitation and operation of facilities, including but not limited to buildings, pumping stations, treatment plants, and arenas would be considered an asset.
