The Manager, Collaborative Practice & Education acts as a corporate practice leader and resource within the Interprofessional practice (IPP) department.

The Manager, Collaborative Practice & Education (MCP) provides leadership in collaborating to create, articulate and sustain an organization wide vision for interprofessional collaborative practice that emphasizes highest quality, patient and family-centered care.

The MCP will be a part of the Unity Health IPP leadership team; while the position will require participation and movement across all sites of Unity Health, the MCP will be primarily stationed at the St.

Joseph's Healthcare site.


The MCP is integral in leading practice guidelines, evidence based practices, implementing and evaluating complex change processes and patient safety and quality initiatives.

The MCP is a people manager who leads a team of health disciplines within our Health Disciplines Resource team, a team of float clinicianswho support practice excellence in clinical programs.

The MCP leads health profession specific education, curriculum development and evaluation. The MCP promotes and facilitates professional development and on-going learning for health disciplines groups and within interprofessional teams.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Provides core Professional Practice leadership to several health disciplines groups (including: occupational therapy, physiotherapy, Rehabilitation Assistants) ;
  • Collaborates with Practice leaders from across Unity Health to create formal and informal structures and opportunities for discipline specific groups from the three sites of UHT to learn, teach, research and practice collaboratively;
  • Oversees credentialing and qualifications for all members of their assigned disciplines;
  • Acts as a mentor to members of the professions that they oversee;
  • Collaborates with Clinicians in the process of competency assessment and development, and assists Clinicians in developing and implementing subsequent personal learning plans;
  • Identifies and responds to specific and interprofessional practice issues/concerns;
  • Advises Senior Director, Health Disciplines Practice and Education, program management and other staff on matters of professional practice and professional/student education, as required;
  • Provides leadership in creating, articulating and sustaining a network wide vision for interprofessional collaborative practice that emphasizes highest quality patient and familycentered care;
  • Enhances profession specific and interprofessional peer support and consultation;
  • Supports strong interprofessional collaboration through the development of structures, processes and mechanisms that support positive patient outcomes at the site level and across Unity Health;
  • Ensures that patient care activities are consistent with the philosophy, goals, and Standards of Practice of health disciplines;
  • Advocates for and actively contributes to a culture of patient and staff safety;
  • Leads corporate interprofessional practice initiatives using a collaborative leadership style and human centered design principles;
  • Provides leadership to, and participation in, Unity Health committees, working groups and councils where health disciplines and Interprofessional Practice leadership and representation are needed to advance strategic goals and objectives;

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree in health discipline required;
  • Master's Degree in health related field, education or management required;
  • Membership in good standing with a health profession regulatory college;
  • Membership with profession's provincial or national association preferred;
  • Experience in adult education, knowledge translation and design thinking;
  • Experience using project management skills and methodologies in examining & reengineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing & implementing new strategies & procedures;
  • Experience with design, delivery and evaluation of educational programs for staff in a health care environment.
  • Use of research in the practice setting, clinical education, planning, consultation and facilitation.
  • Experience in the development of policies, procedures and knowledge transfer of these practices is an asset.
  • Demonstrated excellent leadership, interpersonal, communication, presentation, critical thinking, project management and organizational skills required.
  • Experience managing teams, including recruitment, scheduling, HR management and budgeting.
  • Demonstrated ability to inquire, develop, plan and deliver material based on best practice.
  • Working knowledge of Regulated Health Professions Act, Regulatory College Standards and related health care legislation required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the advancement of equity, diversity and social accountability;
