    Job Description

    (MHICA), a group company of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, is a Tier 1 manufacturer of major aircraft structures and assemblies, based in Mississauga, Ontario. Over the past decade, MHICA has built more than aircraft components, it has built a recognized worldwide reputation for capacity, precision, on-time delivery, and excellence. MHICA has two state-of-the-art facilities combined to 476,000 sq. ft. This comprises of Manufacturing & Assembly, Engineering, Quality and Supply Chain, where highly-skilled employees are working on Bombardier's sector-leading Global 5000/6000 and Challenger 350 business aircraft. MHICA's technicians build and join wing assemblies and fuselage sections, as well as perform systems and flight control assembly installations and testing.

    Scope of Position

    Reporting to the Strategic Sourcing-Director, the Commodity Manager is a key member of the Supply Chain team. The Commodity Manager's responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Managing the parts acquisition process for multiple projects that are underway from concept design to the handover of a stable supply chain for production.
  • Coordinate the supply chain activity across several projects as is relevant at any given time.
  • Negotiate the most economic and cost-effective solution for the purposes of the programmes they are supporting. The candidate will have responsibility for managing the recurring cost budget throughout the qualification and development stages of the package they are working on.
  • Lead the execution of the contractual obligations of the suppliers during the development phase for Build to Spec and Build to Print parts.
  • Work with Planners and Tactical Buyers to provide accurate forecasts of new development.
  • Interface with Planners, Tactical Buyers, and subcontract suppliers on delivery schedule, cost, and contract inquiries.
  • Ensure supplier adherence to operational related contractual terms and conditions.
  • Assist Supplier on Rate Readiness for development and legacy programs.
  • Facilitate and monitor cost reduction activities directly related to program and suppliers.
  • Coordinate the industrialization commitment on the parts purchased, respecting costs and deadlines, and aim to implement targeted objectives as soon as possible. Rely on the purchasing function and on all the functions necessary for processing needs.
  • Report weekly on new development activities with the Supply Chain, and Cost reduction achievement.
  • Manage design changes at development stages with suppliers to ensure any costs and obsolescence issues are minimized.
  • Develop a strategic approach to supply chain activities in support of the numerous projects within the NPI and R&T area of the business. Identify opportunities for consolidated spend activities for the overall benefit of the business.
  • Proactively identify and resolve supply chain issues to meet the business needs.
  • Launch of RFQ packages and negotiate prices, terms and conditions, and delivery dates to meet project requirements.
  • Skills and Qualifications

  • Understanding and appreciation of Engineering principles with at least a basic ability to read technical drawings.
  • Experience in estimating roles will be considered an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with individuals across a range of functions and varying seniority.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision within multifunctional teams.
  • Must have problem solving skills and the ability to implement action as a consequence of findings and identifying root causes.
  • Must have commercial awareness. Ability to understand, challenge and implement contract conditions.
  • Must have a good understanding of ERP systems (ideally SAP / Syspro) and Office 365.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Must be flexible and have the ability to manage multiple tasks to achieve a common goal.
  • Ability to influence individuals outside of the function to achieve an overall business goal.
  • Must be hard working, honest, conscientious, polite, and co-operative.
  • Candidate must be goal driven & focused.
  • Quick to learn new tasks and take on new responsibilities.
  • Fluency in any of the following languages will be considered an asset: French, Japanese, Spanish.
  • Experience

  • Experience in identifying and delivering cost reduction plans to benefit the business.
  • Experience liaising with customers or suppliers.
  • Experience in the aerospace industry is desirable, an awareness of low volume sourcing is preferred.
  • Experience having influenced design to achieve cost reduction or improve manufacturability of components.
