Description
The incumbent is responsible as a group/work leader. The Incumbent is responsible for providing direction and checking results, but generally works along with those supervised.

The incumbent supervises full-time, part-time, and/or casual/relief employees and may participate in the hiring, orientating, evaluating, and disciplining of staff.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Service Responsibilities:


  • Serve actively as a member of the management team for the Brantford Housing Resource Centre (HRC).
  • Provide oversight and supervision of Social Service Staff and the daytoday operations in accordance with the mission and values of The Salvation Army.
  • Ensure that duties assigned are completed in an appropriate, safe, and efficient manner by the completion of their respective shifts.
  • Has input and may participate in the hiring, orientating, evaluating, and disciplining of staff.
  • During shift, provide support and supervision of staff and assist with crisis intervention, diffusing conflict and problem solving as required to ensure the safety of residents and staff; responds initially to resident grievances.
  • Responsible for completing the scheduling of staff to ensure coverage for all vacant shifts, including sick relief, stat, and vacation coverage.
  • Provide direction and support services to staff as required.
  • Monitor and check logs to ensure the completion of regular security checks.
  • Provide statistical and evaluative information to management when required.
  • May provide back up support to and or assume functions at front desk area or other program areas as needed.
  • Identify staff training requirements and make recommendations regarding staff development for those supervised.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Rotational oncall duties

Health and Safety:


  • Responsible to work in compliance with the Ontario Health & Safety Acts and Regulations
  • Responsible to work in a manner as required by the employer and use the prescribed safety equipment.
  • In consultation with the Executive Director, provide oversight to WSIB claims and other health and safety matters as required within applicable departments, including supervision of the Early and Safe Return to Work Program.
  • Ensure that proper procedures are followed in the event of a workplace injury or illness, conducting incident investigations when required.
  • Participate in all Health & Safety related accidents and injury investigations.
  • Perform other position related duties as assigned.

Organizational Responsibilities:


  • Develop an understanding of the Mission of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Participate as an active and responsible team member in all work groups through which position responsibilities are achieved.
  • Comply with all City of Brantford standards and contractual agreements.
  • Assist the program services manager in scheduling and chairing staff meetings.
  • Represent the organization in a professional and engaging manner.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Lead by example, by demonstrating a positive attitude, a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and be flexible in the face of change.
  • Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution.
  • Participate in supervision and performance appraisal process.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training.
  • Ensure that staff are aware of emergency procedures and are prepared to implement them immediately as necessary.
  • Act in the best interest of the employer at all times.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This is a
permanent, full-time position based on
40 hours per week.

Schedule may vary due to the requirements of position responsibilities, which may include some work outside of regular schedule, particularly on some weekday evenings and weekends.


Shifts:
Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

  • Schedule may vary according to requirements of responsibilities some weekend and evening work may be required.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 20 lbs.
  • Some travel required.
  • This position is considered a management position for the purposes of the Employment Standards Act of Ontario and as such is not covered by various ESA rules, including but not limited to those related to hours of work, daily and weekly rest periods and overtime compensation. Salary is based on average minimum weekly hours of 40 per week and hours worked are compensated through the annual salary amount.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:


  • Completed a postsecondary University Degree in Social Services or equivalent education.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification and CPR/First Aid Certification would be an asset or willing to obtain.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
