JOB PURPOSE
This position is responsible for building relationships with volunteers, non-profits and community organizations across BC.

Reporting to the Manager of Volunteer Engagement, the Volunteer Coordinator will develop agency and partner connections that align with United Way BC's (UWBC) strategic goals.

This includes growing utilization of the iVolunteer platform and developing capacity building initiatives to support volunteerism across BC.

Connecting diverse volunteers to vital community work and increasing the awareness and understanding of UWBC's brand is also a key component of this role.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- **Key Responsibilities: Volunteer Management*
  • Builds relationships with individuals to assess, codesign and develop opportunities related to volunteering.
  • Develops and implements recruitment and training for volunteering including the use of the iVolunteer online platform.
  • Develops and implements a recognition program that ensures a solid connection with United Way volunteers
  • Organizes opportunities for Volunteer Sector Mobilization and capacity building.
  • Collaborates in the development of procedures relating to volunteers
  • Tracks results through standardized record keeping practices
  • Maintains volunteer files ensuring documentation of screening practices and compliance with Standards of Practice and relevant legislation
  • Generates and assesses statistical reports related to volunteering and capacity building
  • Implements evaluation of volunteers and capacity building initiatives connected to volunteerism
  • Supports a climate of readiness for volunteers by clearly communicating needs, details and expectations
  • Provides guidance and support to volunteers
  • Under the guidance of the Manager of Volunteer Engagement develops volunteer position descriptions, templates and training tools to meet assessed needs
  • Recruits volunteers for specific roles and assignments through internal and external strategies
  • Administers thirdparty screening (references, criminal record checks) in accordance with level of risk, Standards of Practice, and relevant legislation
  • Matches prospective volunteers with available nonprofit sector opportunities
  • Confirms volunteer placement and scheduling, and implements startup procedures for each volunteer

General

  • Performs other duties related to the qualifications and requirements of the job

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Education:


  • Two (2) year diploma in Social Sciences or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Certified in Volunteer Administration (CVA certification) an asset

Experience:


  • Minimum three (3) years' relevant experience as a volunteer administrator
  • One (1) year of customer service experience and administrative office experience

Skills:


  • Excellent relationship building and interpersonal skills
  • Outstanding customer service skills and excellent telephone manners
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills; an effective listener and presenter
  • Demonstrated ability to work with volunteers, including community groups, onsite volunteers, skill based and professional staff
  • Ability to work on multiple projects and responsibilities concurrently
  • Ability to create and maintain good working relationships across the organization
  • Attention to detail; excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Proven presentation skills and training skills
  • Ability to exercise a high level of tact and discretion in both internal and external interactions
  • Knowledge and experience with Volunteer nonprofit sector an asset

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Some hours outside of business hours to provide event orientations and assistance to volunteers
  • Requires a driver's license and access to a vehicle
  • Must be able to lift 20 lbs

This is a bargaining unit role with CUPE 1760. This position is a pay grade 36 which is $77,915.07 annually. This is a temporary position which is schedule to end December 2024.
