About the role


The Environmental Coordinator is a position in our organization responsible for assisting with and ensuring company management and workers comply with environmental regulations, Health Safety & Environment Management System, and municipal/client environmental guidelines.

The Environmental Coordinator reports directly to the Environmental Manager and will have an in-depth knowledge of environmental coordination. This position will support one or more project sites and be responsible for on-site environmental monitoring and inspections.


As an Environmental Coordinator
at Graham you will:

  • Conducting or assisting with the monitoring of environmental aspects, including wildlife; Species at Risk; migratory birds; fish and fish habitat; discharge water quantity and quality; excavated materials management; impacted materials; waste management; erosion and sediment control; dust control; spill prevention and spill response; archaeological discoveries; protection of cultural heritage resources; and Sustainability Plan objectives.
  • Performing field inspections, surveys, sampling and walk downs of environmentrelated activities to assure field activities, conditions and outcomes correspond with the requirements of all applicable environmental laws and standards, environmental contractual obligations, Environmental Management Plans, Environmental Policy and best management practices.
  • Monitoring and inspecting construction activities for compliance with environmental obligations; completing environmental inspections; and providing advice and recommendations for improving environmental protection and correcting any inefficient practices and/or issues of noncompliance.
  • Identifying and recording environmental issues; and, prepared to issue stop/modify work instructions to construction subcontractors where construction activities constitute or have the potential to result in noncompliance with applicable environmental laws or contract requirements.
  • Providing Environmental Awareness and Orientation Training through onsite orientation, toolbox talks and procedure rollouts, and advising project team members in support of environmental quality standards, objectives, guidelines, policies, procedures and legislation.
  • Updating and maintaining tracking databases for environmental issues and incidents; water sampling; soil sampling; excavated material; and waste.

Qualifications/Experience

  • Relevant undergraduate degree or college diploma specializing in environmental science, environmental management, environmental engineering or another relevant field.
  • Minimum 5 years work related experience conducting environmental inspections, monitoring and compliance in a constructionrelated field.
  • Familiar with Municipal, Provincial and Federal environmental legislation including but not limited to waste management, spills response and reporting, water quality and sewer use, trees and tree removal, species at risk, erosion and sediment control, groundwater wells, transportation of dangerous goods.
  • Familiar with typical environmental impacts related to construction projects and associated mitigation measures.
  • Knowledge of methods, approaches, and best management practices related to environmental inspections.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Systematic and structured problemsolving skills.
  • Proficient with MS Office.
  • Prior experience working on an industrial construction site is considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with construction noise and vibration impact and mitigation measures is considered an asset.
