Emergency Medical Care Inc.

(EMC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Medavie Health Services that manages and operates ground ambulance, air medical transport and the medical communications operations in Nova Scotia through a performance-based contract with the provincial government's Emergency Health Services (EHS) division and the Department of Health and Wellness.

As well, EMC operates TeleHealth 811 medical communications for Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island for the Department of Health.

EMC delivers a high-quality pre-hospital care program and TeleHealth service to Nova Scotians each and every day.

We achieve this through the more than 1,400 employees who work with us including highly-trained paramedics, nurses, medical communication officers and support staff.

Reporting to the Regional Manager, the District Operations Supervisor (DOS) is a frontline supervisor for EMCI operations division.

Accountable for all operational activities and staff within a defined geographic area within a region, the DOS is a key leadership position within the organization.


The DOS is the primary contact point for all administrative activity within the geographic district assigned including public relations, stakeholder relations and allied health and public safety liaison.

The DOS is the frontline supervisor for assigned staff within the district.

This includes primary accountability for all human resource, labour relations, finance and budgeting, fleet maintenance, station maintenance, and overall ongoing system readiness and capacity.

The DOS serves as a key agent of change in the organization.

This position will proactively inform changes within the division and organization by providing operational expertise and input to the organization.

This position will be a key resource for paramedics when change is undertaken in areas of equipment, protocols, policies, and procedures.
