    JOB SUMMARY

    Corporate Security is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all persons at city facilities through the delivery of a variety of security services.

    This position will be responsible for directly supporting the Ottawa Public Library (OPL) with their respective security needs by conducting ongoing analysis and making recommendations for improved security measures to safeguard OPL staff and assets, as well as providing incident management and investigative support in relation to security incidents at OPL facilities. This position will also be responsible for developing and overseeing the day-to-day security operations inclusive of supervising contracted security personnel, developing standard operating procedures, as well as security plans for special events and emergency situations at OPL facilities including the new Adisoke Main Branch which is expected to open in January 2026.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    Successful completion of 2 year college diploma in Security Administration/Management, Public Safety, Police Foundations, or a related field.

    Minimum of 5 years of experience in the security field, including experience conducting Workplace Security/CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) assessments as well as Supervisory experience in the area of Security Guard operations.

    Experience in organizing and delivering Security Awareness Seminars.

    CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES
    Preference will be given to applicants who have obtained CPTED "Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design" certification.
    Preference will be given to applicants who hold ASIS certification, i.e: PSP (Physical Security Professional), or CPP (Certified Protection Professional).

    KNOWLEDGE

  • Relevant legislation, policies, codes, regulations, standards, and guidelines.
  • Human Resources practices, as they pertain to investigations involving employees.
  • Integrated electronic security management systems operations, including access control, CCTV, emergency alarms, intrusion alarms, emergency communication, etc.
  • Methods for identification and analysis of security threats and risks.
  • Emergency planning and evacuation procedures.
  • City Security policies and procedures.
  • Principles of adult education.
  • Must possess the training, experience and knowledge to organize the work and its performance.
  • Must be familiar with all applicable health and safety legislation, have knowledge of any potential or actual danger to health or safety in the work place, and have knowledge of appropriate actions to be taken in order to ensure the health and safety of staff in accordance with applicable legislation and City policies and procedures.

  • Proficient in the use of Office 365 software.
  • Observe confidentiality on all matters relating to security.
  • Communicate effectively (written, verbal and interpersonal communication) at all organizational levels.
  • Interact effectively and productively with various clients and user groups with different cultural perspectives and priorities.
  • Ability to analyze problems and work with a team to develop realistic and innovative solutions to problems involving security issues.
  • Able to interpret and translate legislation into common language for communication with client groups.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to manage change effectively, by shifting priorities and adapting to changes to meet organizational and program requirements.

  • WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Language Requirement: English oral, reading, writing
  • Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa's satisfaction.; Police record checks completed by a third-party company will not be accepted.
  • A valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver's license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
  • Must have access to a personal vehicle. Mileage and parking provisions will be reimbursed as per the Management Terms and Conditions.
