Canlan Ice Sports is currently looking for a
Sports Shop Supervisor.
The Sports Shop Supervisor demonstrates initiative and impeccable customers service skills.

They maintain a strong working knowledge of hockey and skating, and direct day to day operations of the Sports Shop ensuring a high level of Customer Service is achieved.

This position supervises and schedules team members and maintains responsibility of Sports Shop merchandising, promotions, cost controls, sales targets and assistance in the annual operating plan preparation.


LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Influencing through Developing others and Managing Resources and Conflict

  • Effectively recruit, select hire and facilitate orientation of new staff for department
  • Manage and develop team within the department (inclusive of ongoing learning and development initiatives and related follow up / follow through)
  • Ensure team is are properly trained to provide clientele with a superior skate sharpen
  • Conduct and manage team performance reviews inline with policy, and establishing effective, measurable goals and objectives for each staff member
  • Provide positive feedback and recognition for solid performance and implement corrective action, using Performance Improvement Plans, and documents as required
  • Ensure effective communication and working relationships with all stakeholders and resolve conflicts between stakeholders when required
  • Follow and ensure all team members adhere to
  • Canlan's policies, standard operating procedures, best practices and reporting systems
  • Job expectations as detailed in their Job Descriptions

Team Development and Customer Relationship

  • Ensure consistent delivery of Canlan's products and services to exceed established levels through a variety of ways including regular audits and strict adherence to standard operating procedures
  • Ensure team is optimally scheduled to create positive customer service experience
  • Substitute / cover for team member roles / shifts as required
  • Troubleshoot customer service issues, questions and concerns in a timely manner
  • Through a variety of methods including regular departmental meetings, communicate goals, objectives and expectations to department staff and monitor performance against them
  • Proactively resolve or escalate any guest, staff member or personal concerns to manager as required

Business Goals, Ongoing Planning and Work Management

  • Create the Annual Operating Plan for the Sports Shop and assist the General Manager in developing forecasts
  • Compile and submit department regular cost reporting accurately and within established deadlines
  • Collaborate and share best practices with other Sports Shop Supervisors, Corporate Managers and/or National Director, Sports Shop Operations and Purchasing
  • Ensure team members accurately and completely perform closing procedures and nightly cash outs and reports
  • Develop, maintain and enforce control systems for cash and inventory
  • Prepare and balance floats (tills, petty cash and safes) daily
  • Submit month end reports on ACCPAC/ORION system and record/file as required
  • Verify and audit department physical inventory counts, compile and submit inventory values and adjustments to Burnaby Head Office
  • Through purchasing and monitoring inventory, ensure inventory levels are adequate to support sales

Sales Leadership and Ability

  • Provide in house / on the floor team leadership ensuring sales growth and customer satisfaction
  • With the facility Sales & Marketing Manager and corporate personnel maximise sales by ensuring proper execution and delivery of sports shop promotions
  • Develop relationship with merchandise supplier contacts (sales reps, CSRs, etc.) and maintain contact list
  • Listen effectively to all concerns and conflicts with an open mind and customer focus
  • Ensure sales transactions are recorded properly (e.g. skate sharpening sales)

Decision Making and Results

Manage Financial Accountability and Administrative Requirements

  • Manage opening and closing procedures
  • Manage revenue and sales of Sports Goods products
  • Ensure department assets are maintained according to manufacturer specifications to ensure life expectancy
  • Review and process supplier invoices, adjustments and payroll hours before submitting to the General Manager for approval
  • Manage invoicing and produce customer and intercompany invoices
  • Ensure sports shop equipment is maintained according to manufacturer specifications to ensure life expectancy and meets operational requirements per Sport Shop Operating Manual
