The Assistant Store Manager (ASM) is responsible for all aspects of performance for their assigned departments including all elements of profit and loss, customer satisfaction, execution standards, audit compliance, labour productivity, and colleague satisfaction and performance.

The ASM is also responsible for overall store conditions and performance when called on to act as Store Manager/Manager on Duty.


Accountabilities:


  • Project manage the introduction of centrally developed programs and processes including control standards (inventory, Health & Safety, product recalls, food safety, LAR, etc.) and merchandising and operational programs and processes (B.U. program launches, operational process implementations) in assigned departments to ensure effective implementation and sustained onstandard performance.
  • Utilizing the Store Walk Tool and protocol, ensure that daily and seasonal execution plans and activities for assigned departments are to standard. This includes department cleanliness, product displays and merchandising, signage, labour planning, product availability and ordering, ad item maintenance, and focus on reducing shrink while meeting customer expectations and demand.
  • Responsible for the achievement of satisfactory scores on all store audits (Food Safety, Health & Safety, and Loblaw Accountability Report) for assigned departments.
  • As requested by the Store Manager, assume full responsibility for Manager on Duty including oversight for all store issues and conditions, store opening and closing, colleague and customer issue resolution, department task sheet follow up, risk management, Health & Safety, Food Safety issues, and ensuring effective Front End customer service.
  • Conduct P&L analysis on assigned departments on a period basis and engage Department Managers in the development and execution of action plans to address opportunities to drive sales and reduce costs including product ordering and shrink, labour management, supply costs, etc.
  • Utilizing PACE reports engage Department Managers in the development and execution of action plans to address customer satisfaction issues and opportunities.
  • Actively seek out opportunities to develop a strong relationship with the local community through strategic funding of community programs, event planning support for local groups, etc.
  • Monitor the competitive environment in the immediate vicinity of the store and recommend actions to the Store Manager that will drive sales, profitability, and customer satisfaction.
  • Conduct resource planning for all assigned departments and recruit, train, and performance manage Department Managers. This includes ensuring that all new hire Managers receive specified training, and are coached and developed on an ongoing basis as required to meet or exceed the performance requirements of their role. The incumbent is also responsible for discipline as warranted.

Role Requirements:


  • 35 years of prior operations and P&L management experience
  • Prior experience in coaching, developing and motivating in retail
  • Ability to develop and implement action plans in a team environment
  • Strong analytic skills and financial acumen
