The opportunity:


The Manager, VP (Admin) Communications has specialized knowledge of the partner areas and is responsible for establishing best practice communications programs to address the objectives, needs and opportunities of the portfolios within the team.

The Manager, VP (Admin) Communications may be called up to actively participate on committees related to issues within the portfolio or more wide-ranging campus initiatives.

More broadly, the Manager, Vice-President (Admin) Communications also plays a vital role in promoting and building the reputation of the university and its areas of strategic priority at the internal and local, regional, and national level.

The Manager, VP (Admin) Communications is responsible for directing the development of all Communications Officers on his/her team including performance management, professional development and hiring.


During crises or when significant issues are being considered at the University of Manitoba, the Manager, VP (Admin) Communications will participate with planning, development of communications strategies, and executing responses and will be expected to work with sensitive and confidential information.

The Manager, VP (Admin) Communications will be assigned to the University's bargaining teams (AESES, Unifor, UMFA, CUPE) for communications support during labour negotiations.


The qualifications and experience we're looking for:

  • Undergraduate degree in communications, marketing or other related specialization required.
  • Six years of directly related communications and client management experience in an integrated marketing communications setting required.
  • Leadership and management experience is required.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communications skills and a high level of creativity and problemsolving skills are required.
  • Must have a proven track record of successful strategic communications planning and implementation.
  • Must have exceptional leadership and relationship building skills.
  • A solid understanding of print and digital communications platforms and the ability to leverage in an integrated way to meet identified goals and objectives are required.
  • Must have strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize conflicting demands.
  • Strong project management skills are required.
  • A proven track record in working with all levels of staff, including senior administration, external stakeholders and others is an asset.
  • Must possess a high degree of independence, diplomacy and the ability to work collectively in a fastpaced environment.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate and negotiate is required.
  • Ability to liaise successfully with external partners and senior leaders within the institution is required.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire team members is required.
  • Ability to manage a broad range of marketing communications projects from concept to completion is required.
  • Thorough knowledge of the procedures and techniques in the field of specialization is required.
  • Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
