What You'll be Doing

Facilitating collaboration between faculty, coordinator and instructional design team on curriculum development/ new programming.

Hiring Part time program support staff

Assisting Associate Dean in interview process for faculty and managing orientations for new contract faculty.

Planning and executing ESL club activities, i.e. social activities, volunteer work, etc.

Preparing documentation related to program concept, design, resources and viability.

Recommending new programming initiatives to the AD the FHASS management team and College approval committees


Ensuring smooth/positive functioning of department through identification, mediation and resolution of issues involving contract faculty and students; escalates complaints/ appeals to AD as appropriate.

Leading/supervising direct reports. Ensures recruitment process, workload assignments, payroll procedures and employment related activities are followed

Ensuring program procedures are developed and followed. May involve requirements that are specific to Professional Associations (i.e. Languages Canada), or other program partners.

Ensuring a safe working environment as required by the College's health & safety guidelines.

Assisting Associate Dean and Academic Portfolio Administrator in enrolment forecasting for each semester and each 7-week module.

Working with Academic Portfolio Administrator to create capacity i.e. override class list, for student enrolment.

Supporting Associate Dean in development of overall marketing strategy/ messaging; has direct responsibility for marketing activities specific to program (e.g. presence at Sheridan Open House event, other events /fairs)


Maintaining currency in field of expertise; engaging in professional development and leading by example particularly as it relates to emerging trends in ESL.


Participating on internal committees and maintains close liaison with other Faculties/ departments, including SPARK(Centre for Academic Excellence), the Office of the Registrar, etc.

to ensure appropriate linkages are developed and maintained.

Representing Associate Dean in external committees (i.e. OCLCC, TESL Ontario events, Languages Canada conferences/ meetings, etc.), as necessary.

Participating on other projects and initiatives as required.

Must possess a minimum 4-year Bachelors degree and Post graduate certificate in Education, Linguistics, TESOL or related field.

Must possess a minimum of 5 years of job-related experience. (Or an equivalent combination of education and experience).


Must possess experience teaching in an academic ESL program; TESOL Ontario/ Canada certification, or related; member/affiliation in Association discipline related to program.

Must possess experience in a post-secondary educational environment or similar experience in training and development environment.

Supervisory skills with direct management experience preferred.

Knowledge of emerging trends and issues affecting ESL and post-secondary education.

Research skills and the ability to analyze and summarize information.

Project Management skills.

Leadership and team-building - a commitment to a team model of decision making and operations management.

Strong understanding of Information Technology in adult learning environments.
