The Opportunity
We are looking for a self-directed, positive, engaging 0-12 Parent Support Outreach Worker to join our team.

Reporting to the Child and Youth Services Program Coordinator, the Parent Support Community Outreach Worker will provide community outreach services and ongoing support to families with children years.

Support will be provided to families from a strengths-based approach in a group setting and through one-on-one visits with parents.

This position will collaborate with partners and build on the capacity of the community. Participant population will include young parents, and community families/caregivers with children age birth to twelve.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Assess and interpret the needs of parents in the community;
  • Maintain regular contact with parents; providing support and resource information on pregnancy, parenting, relationships, life skills and housing;
  • Assist participants to access community services including other ESSS programs;
  • Provide crisis intervention and short-term supports as needed;
  • Workshop facilitation and one on one consultation;
  • Develop and co-ordinate work experience, support programs and social events;
  • Liaise with other agency staff and community partners and develop a team approach as required;
  • Maintain related records and statistics and provide reports to supervisor;
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information related to children, parents and staff;
  • To understand and carry out all policies and procedures pertaining to ESSS;
  • To take responsibility for personal and professional growth and development;
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • 1. Education and Knowledge_
  • Completion of Social Services Diploma required
  • Completion of an Undergraduate Degree in a Social Science preferred
  • 2. Training and Experience_
years' experience with family support work, group facilitation, and/or outreach support

  • Must have experience facilitating support groups, plus a working knowledge of family dynamics, child development and parenting topics
  • Class 4 Drivers License, or willingness to obtain
  • Current First Aid
  • 3. Skills and Abilities_
  • Solid professional written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong planning, organizational and administrative skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage numerous tasks simultaneously;
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills to interact effectively and build relationships with program staff, families, colleagues, funders, volunteers, community, agencies and other organizations;
  • Ability to motivate and lead with a collaborative approach;
  • Effective listening and consensus building skills that promote communication and a cooperative approach to problem solving and decision making;
  • Ability to maintain professional integrity, boundaries, and confidentiality;
