Supervisor, Material Handling

The Supervisor, Material Handling position is responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of workers engaged in the movement or storage of products by use of equipment, such as forklifts and conveyors.

In addition, schedule the activities of the material handling by reviewing requests and shipping or receiving tickets. This position may make decisions on personnel actions (e.g., hiring, termination, promotion, etc.).

Performance Expectations

Schedule workload for shipping and receiving department.
Work with Material Control and Purchasing in planning daily shipments.
Schedule transportation for shipping materials.
Communicate precise instructions.
Coordinate and maintain the departments activities.
Preparation of shipments, i.e. packaging, carrier, inspection clearance, customs documents, and shipping documents.
Contract Transportation on a constant basis in regards to truck properties.
Maintain material control with tow motor drivers.
Advise the department of their daily tasks.
Report and record any damage on incoming material.
Maintain all Lot Control and Shipping & Receiving Documents.
Maintain dock audits on a regular basis.
Plan work processes and schedules to ensure full use of all equipment and workers.
Total and approve estimates and invoices for materials ordered.
Calculate extensions, discounts for volume purchases and taxes.
Select suppliers for fabrication materials, tools and shop supplies.

Select suppliers for fabrication materials, tools and shop supplies while considering pricing and product quality.
Coordinate work processes for material handlers, machinists and others to ensure customers' orders are completed on time.

Credentials

High School Diploma or equivalent general education.
Minimum three years of experience in a shipping and/or receiving department.
Minimum two years of previous experience.
Knowledge of NAFTA.
Use computeroperated machinery such print delivery slips using computerized printers.
Able to read safe handling procedures and hazard warnings on labels and identify hazard symbols and risk phrases on Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System labels to ensure proper handling of materials.

Desired Characteristics

Able to discuss daily operations with coworkers and material properties and other technical matters with material handlers, engineers, manufacturers' representatives and other specialists.
