Laboratory Analyst - HPLC Lab

As a Laboratory Technician, your responsibilities are:

  • Using Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) instrumentation, conduct routine sample analysis and data reduction to determine levels of vitamins, amino acids, sugars, etc. in food content.
  • Review LIMS summary and reports to prioritize daily workload.
  • Maintain analytical instrumentation in optimized and calibrated condition. When appropriate, troubleshoot and repair instruments/equipment. Ensure a sufficient inventory of appropriate materials and supplies are on hand to sustain operations of respective analyses.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure accuracy and quality of work.
  • Maintain a "continuous improvement" mindset, actively evaluating processes for potential improvements in efficiency, quality, etc. Recommend and help to implement production efficiencies.
  • Keep abreast of trends in liquid chromatography and food safety; including new technologies, methodologies and regulations.
  • Under the guidance of a Scientific Specialist/Supervisor, conduct contract feasibility, method development and method validation as required.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor.

You are an ideal Laboratory Technician, if you have [Minimum Requirements]:

  • Post-secondary degree / diploma, preferably in food chemistry, food science or a related discipline.
  • Two years of experience working in an analytical laboratory environment.
  • Experience working with liquid chromatography instrumentation and familiarity with various detectors (UV, FL, RI, MS) and their principles of operation would be an asset.
  • Able to define problems, assessing and interpreting data to draw valid conclusions and resolve discrepancies.
  • Familiar with official accredited methods such as AOAC, AOCS, FDA, etc.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good record keeping skills and attention to detail.
  • The ability to accurately follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and instructions.
  • Is energetic with positive outlook and "cando" attitude.
  • Familiar with Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and MS Office.
  • Experience with Agilent instrument software (ChemStation, MassHunter, etc.) would be an asset.
