We are currently seeking a Mechanical Technician to join our Remote Handling (RH) Group to provide hands-on technical support for operations, production, installation, and troubleshooting primarily related to target systems site-wide.

In general, this position is suitable for someone with a high regard for industrial safety, proficiency in standard hands-on techniques and practices, and a strong mechanical aptitude.

Specifically, this position will be primarily responsible for performing routine target exchanges, module maintenance, and radioactive waste processing within our hot cell facilities.

The position will also support maintenance of equipment typically used for such operations.

Remote Handling hot cells are rooms with telemanipulators, radiation shielding, lifting equipment, cameras, and nuclear ventilation which allow operators to safely interact with radioactive items.

This role would focus on ensuring operations are performed as per a defined beam schedule or shutdown period schedule.

The incumbent would help develop innovative new tools/jigs and procedures to support site-wide RH initiatives, with the goal of increased safety and reliability.

The day-to-day work will be comprised mostly of: operating specialized hot cell equipment, coordinating and carrying out maintenance tasks, fabrication/modification of parts/tooling, and creating/updating drawings and documentation.

Much of the work will be within a small, focused group of technical staff, but this role also involves interfacing with a diverse group of people such as physicists, engineers, and tradespeople.
