About the Opportunity


Reporting to the Leader of Social Work Services and working in collaboration with the clinical Social Work Team, identifies and assists clients to access appropriate resources; participates in planning, coordinating and evaluating social work activities; provides individualized coaching and support to clients to promote social emotional health and independence; conducts follow-up services and liaises with the multidisciplinary team and community agencies to meet the needs of the clients served.


A day in the life of a BCCFA Social Worker

  • Responds to the service inquires and provides program information to clients and their families
  • Assists in the planning, coordination and evaluation of social work activities
  • Acts as a resource to clients and their families by providing information regarding community resources and access these resources, arranges referrals and facilitates wraparound planning to meet the comprehensive needs of the clients and their families
  • Works in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team and medical personnel, provides individualized coaching and support to clients, assisting them to practice and acquire skills identified in the social emotional intervention plan
  • Liaises with community and medical resources to meet the needs of the clients served
  • Arranges and conducts client/family meetings for service planning and review
  • Provides follow up support to clients as required
  • Maintains clinical record as per professional and department standards
  • Maintains workload statistics as required for the Department and the Centre
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

The Qualifications and Skills You Bring

  • Master's degree in Social Work from an approved school of Social Work with a minimum of 2 years of experience working with children with special needs
  • Current registration with the BC College of Social Workers (BCCSW)
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of pediatric development and social development related to disability, family and cultural dynamics
  • Knowledge and understanding of the principle of Family Centered Practice
  • Ability to make effective referrals, reflecting indepth knowledge of community resources and strong collaborative skills in working with community health and social agencies and school programs
  • Ability to effectively work independently and with others, including working effectively in a multicultural environment as part of a multidisciplinary team and understanding the frameworks of other disciplines
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with clients, families, staff and community agency personnel
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload in a complex environment
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
  • Valid BC driver's license and use of own car for work

Compensation:


  • Pay Grade 11
