Description
The Faculty of Health Sciences and Human Services includes the Departments of Child and Youth Care, Dental Assistant, Dental Hygiene, Early Childhood Education and Care, Health Care Assistant, Nursing, Practical Nursing, Social Work, Education Assistant and Community Support, and a Professional Development and Training department.
The mission of the Faculty is to foster student success and develop and maintain relevant, responsive, and stimulating learning opportunities that are community-based, globally and locally, and offered in a visionary, interprofessional environment that is conducive to learning and promotes health and wellness for all. The Dean and the Dean's Office lead, manage, administer and support the instructional, scholarly and outreach activities of the Faculty on four campuses with this mission in mind.
Duties:
VIU is seeking a temporary coordinator for the Health Care Assistant Partnership Pathways (HCA-PP) program. This is in support of the HCA Partnership Pathways initiative.
Coordination of the HCA-PP program, including working with VIU Admissions & Registration.
In consultation with the Program Chair, the coordinator will support student learning, assist with instruction of students in both clinical and lab course settings, contribute to departmental and faculty meetings, liaise with community partners, and participate in program activities related to curriculum and administrative planning activities.
Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning, and student success through ongoing professional training, subject currency, and institutional service. Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support, institutional, faculty and department committees, meetings and other initiatives, and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an appropriately accredited institution, with current practicing BCCNM membership in good standing; a minimum of five years recent gerontological nursing experience; responsive to a diverse student population, a solid understanding of the scope and role of health care assistants in the health care system. familiar with practice settings in Central Vancouver Island, including private and public residential care and acute care. Proficiency with the application and integration of information technology. Proof of registration or completion of a course about knowledge and understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing and cultural teachings.
Experience with project coordination and management
Candidates with lesser qualifications (RN/LPN with current practicing BCCNM membership in good standing) may be considered.
Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record.
