Stern Cohen LLP is seeking a Tax Manager to join our modern and diverse public accounting firm.

Stern Cohen provides services to owner-managed businesses and professionals in a wide range of industry sectors, and others seeking to do business in Canada.

The Tax Manager will work directly with a Tax Associate, another Tax Manager and two Tax Partners. The firm's Tax Department provides tax advisory and tax planning services, handles complex tax filings (e.g. non-resident filings), and supports the rest of the firm. Unlike other firms, our Tax Department is not responsible for the tax filings of the entire firm. We are an advisory and tax planning driven Tax Department.


Responsibilities

  • Review complex corporate tax returns, complex personal tax returns (e.g. deceased, departure, nonresident), T3 returns, and foreign reporting forms (e.g. T1134, T1141, T1142);
  • Research and document complex tax issues;
  • Prepare tax memorandums to implement postmortem planning, estate freezes, and corporate reorganizations;
  • Prepare written reports on assignments including tax compliance requirements (e.g. for inbound investments), CRA audits, objections, and voluntary disclosures;
  • Respond to tax enquires from accounting and assurance staff;
  • Source and identify opportunities for business development.
  • Participate in weekly tax group meetings.

Your Skills and Experience

  • Canadian accounting designation (CPA, CA, CGA or CMA);
  • Completed In-Depth Tax Course (Parts I, II, and III) or MTax;
  • Minimum three years of relevant work experience in a tax practice;
  • Strong knowledge of Taxprep, TaxnetPro (or IntelliConnect), and CTF TaxFind;
  • Experience with Caseware and Caseview an asset;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Strong analytical capabilities, detail orientation, and problemsolving skills;
  • Interest and aptitude in business development.
