Cheema Aquatic Club is a globally recognized canoe and kayak club providing opportunities for youth to achieve success in life and at all levels as an athlete.

Cheema was founded in 1969 in Waverley to provide aquatic sports opportunities to the youth in our community. Cheema has a long history of Community, National, International and Olympic success.


SUMMARY


The Maintenance and Repair Person is a full-time employee responsible for repairing and maintaining paddling equipment and ensuring that club infrastructure is clean, maintained and fixed where within the job's scope.

Large repairs will be the responsibility of outside contractors. The club has a large fleet of fiberglass, composite and wood boats that require frequent repairs. In addition, these boats require mechanical fixes to steering mechanisms and seats. Cheema's grounds and buildings need garbage and recycling management. Cleaning is a full staff responsibility but requires a lead person responsible for our sanitary standards.


TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):

  • Fiberglass and wood repair of racing canoes and kayaks.
  • Paddle repairs wood and composite
  • Steering mechanism adjustments
  • Seat and floorboard repairs
  • Painting and other surface finishing requirements
  • Motorboat repairs and maintenance.
  • Perform general maintenance and clean up for the club facility and grounds

EXPERIENCE


The successful applicant does not require specific certifications in the trade but be prepared to learn on the job, take direction and possess an aptitude for problem solving and fixing.


REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

  • Criminal background and vulnerable sector check are required prior to offer of employment

OTHER

Vacation:

As a general rule, vacation time is not provided because it is a short work season and all staff are needed in order for programs to run efficiently.

Vacation time will only be approved in extenuating circumstances, and all requests must be submitted to supervisors at least two weeks prior to the requested time off.

No vacation requests will be approved for the first two weeks of summer programming as that is our busiest time.


Job Types:
Full-time, Fixed term contract, Seasonal


Salary:
$16.00-$18.00 per hour


Expected hours:
No more than 40 per week
