LIQUID WASTE/SOIL PROCESSING PLANT OPERATOR

EcoVac Solutions Ltd.

owns and operates a licensed liquid soil recycling facility in Etobicoke under the Ministry of Environment's Environmental Compliance Approval (ECA) H3168-BH9JQY.

The facility receives and processes non-hazardous liquid soils or slurry waste from hydrovac (daylighting) trucks. The liquid soil is processed into reusable stone, sand, clay and treated water.

This is one of only two facilities of its kind in the Greater Toronto area and EcoVac is considered to be the leader in this new type of recycling technology.


The Liquid Waste/Soil Processing Plant Operator plays an important role in the day-to-day operations of EcoVac's Etobicoke industrial site performing required daily activities safely.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Operation of processing plant equipment including:
  • Working within the systems of this cutting-edge processing soils recycling facility and being part of the operations team that is developing and enhancing these proprietary processes.
  • Operating, monitoring and troubleshooting of computerized control system and specialized process equipment in liquid soil processing plant.
  • Monitoring and inspection of plant equipment and systems (pumps, motors, filters, gauges and recording instruments) to detect equipment malfunctions and to ensure plant systems are operating normally.
  • Collecting and preparing samples for routine soil testing and using analysed results to make adjustments to plant equipment and systems as required.
  • Collecting and preparing soils samples to be sent away for testing in accordance with the relevant regulations.
  • Analyzing and interpreting testwork results from soils samples to confirm that materials are in compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Complete and maintain testwork results logs and reports.
  • Performing security checks in the plant and site.
  • Participating and committing to corporate safety initiatives and procedures.
  • Completing and maintaining plant logs and reports and data entry as required.
  • Performing maintenance tasks and assisting with repair of plant machinery ensuring facility operates in accordance with required standards.
  • Assisting General Manager and Operators in trouble shooting machinery and / or processing issues.
  • Daily lubrication and preventative maintenance of all required machinery.
  • Repairing machinery using hand tools and power tools.
  • Receiving hydrovac trucks and recording critically mandated information for Chain of Custody (CoC) purposes as required by EcoVac's Environmental Compliance Approval H3168-BH9JQY issued by the Ministry of Environment.
  • Directing and coordinating hydrovac truck drivers for safe unloading of cargos.
  • General daily housekeeping and good manufacturing practices (GMPs) such as cleaning, sweeping, pressure washing, etc.
  • Operation of heavy equipment including:
  • Pay loader,
  • Sitdown forklift,
  • Bobcat,
  • Scissor lift.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:


  • One to two years experience operating the following specific equipment is required:
  • Hydrotip receiving station,
  • High-Rate thickener,
  • Anionic polymer mixing station,
  • GEA decanter centrifuge.
  • Completion of secondary school is required.
  • One to two years experience operating a process via a Human Machine Interface (HMI).
  • One to two years experience operating Heavy equipment (pay loader, sitdown forklift, Bobcat, Scissor lift) and certification an asset. Training will be provided if required.
  • Workplace hazardous materials information system (WHMIS) certification is required.
  • Working at heights certification and experience required.
  • Confined space certification and experience required.
  • First aid certification is an asset.
  • Familiarity with industry standard equipment and technical expertise an asset.
  • Knowledgeable of industry and provincial safety legislation and standard an asset.
  • Must be fit to meet physically demanding nature of the position which includes handling heavy loads, bending, crouching, kneeling, walking etc.
  • Proven ability to work efficiently and productively in a diverse team of varying skill levels.
  • Motivated, quick learner and able to work in a challenging environment with and without supervision.
  • Must be highly reliable in terms of punctuality, readiness and willingness to maintain efficient operations at all times.
  • Good written and verbal English communication skills required.
  • Onthejob training will be provided as required.

Salary Range:
$33.50 to $35.00/hour DOE

1 June 2023, to be negotiated
