Your Opportunity:

This is a supervisory position responsible primarily for leadership, supervision, task allocation and oversight within the Electrical/Electronics/Locksmith section.

The position is also heavily engaged in consultation and coordination with management, other Lead Hands / Sections, project staff, contractors and numerous other stakeholders.

The position reports to the Facility Manager and is heavily involved in minor construction project tendering and supervision. The Electrical/Electronics/Locksmith section consists of approximately 12 frontline staff. The Lead Hand must be a Journeyman tradesperson, who possesses strong leadership abilities in addition to technical knowledge.

The incumbent is considered part of the RAH FM&E leadership team and will be expected to demonstrate leadership while effectively motivating staff to produce timely, quality work and to embody the AHS values of compassion, accountability, respect, excellence and safety.

The Lead Hand is expected to work independently within established guidelines and procedures and has the authority to take initiative within assigned areas of responsibility.

The primary location will be at the Royal Alexandra Hospital but if an event unfolds, this person may be asked to work at other sites within the zone.

Potential multi-site duties as directed by FM&E Director or Manager.


Description:


As a Lead Hand, you will be responsible for providing functional supervision to a moderately sized group of similar journeyperson trade staff.

In addition to functional supervision, you will perform a wide variety of journeyperson level trade duties associated with maintaining, renovating, repairing and construction in accordance with AHS standards and practices.

You will assign work of journeyperson and supervise staff and perform ongoing maintenance work in an area of assigned trade or related responsibility.

In addition, you will provide health and safety training and orientation and ensure compliance.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Journeyperson Trade Certificate from Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certification in additional related trades/ areas is an asset (Electrical/Electronic/Locksmith). Supervisory/ management/ leadership certification is an asset. Full working knowledge of healthcare infection prevention and control standards. Overall knowledge of hospital organization and operations. Full working knowledge of applicable building systems, hospital standards and codes, hospital non-medical equipment, and specialized areas. Overall knowledge of hospital organization and operations.
