NextStar Energy (NSE) is an innovative joint venture company between LG and Stellantis and will be Canada's first large-scale lithium-ion battery production plant when it begins production at the Twin Oaks site in Windsor Ontario.

The manufacturing facility will have an annual targetted production capacity in excess of 49 gigawatt hours and will create an estimated 2,500 new jobs in Windsor and the surrounding areas.

This state-of-the-art facility will be the first of its kind in Canada and is being built with the goal of becoming the foremost battery hub in North America.

Risk Assessment and Control in a manufacturing environment

Gaining an expert level of understanding for all EHS processes starting with the first crew and then rotating as required


This person will be responsible for:

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements with assist from EHS Team
  • Supervise contractors in relation to EHS requirements.
  • Perform detailed inspections and audits, record keeping, communication of results, and expert tact in reaction to any and all issues while maintaining the understanding that all items need to be followed up and completed / evaluated for success. Improve as needed.
  • Utilize problemsolving methodologies to initiate projects that enhance EHS compliance and performance.
  • Assess, monitor, assist in implementing programs to improve EHS performance, engaging and involving Team Leaders in the process.
  • Contribute to EHS reports, providing relevant information. This includes data acquisition, documentation, recordkeeping, monitoring, reviews, reports, and approvals.
  • Assist with change control implementation and ensuring all relevant documentation is available and completed on the floor for the following but not limited to; LoTo procedures, work instructions with EHS information, chemical safe handling and use, machine pre use inspections.
  • Provide EHS expertise and support to plant leadership, coordinating communication of inspection activities.
  • Assist EHS projects to improve key performance metrics and achieve EHS goals.
  • Lead EHS incident response, internal and external EHS audit findings, determine root causes, and assist with implementing corrective actions. Communicate findings and recommendations to plant leadership and EHS staff.
  • Support the implementation of the plant's EHS management system, meeting ISO 45001 & 14001 requirements.
  • Make recommendats to update EHS procedures. Communicate requirements and deliver training to employees as needed.
  • Promote EHS management initiatives to both the salary and hourly workforce, providing relevant data.
  • Provide handson leadership on the shop floor, including monitoring the facility and exterior yard.
  • Involves all relevant EHS programs. A working knowledge of the applicability of programs in support of the successful implementation of ISO 14001 and 45001 is required and expected.
  • Other responsibilities as requested by EHS Lead

Requirements:


  • 13 Years of Experience in Environmental Health and Safety
  • Internal Inspections & Audits, followup and followthrough
  • Competency of role, relevant education and experience
  • Wide experience and specialty on all topics relevant to EHS and their applicability
  • Expert level organization and coordination of tasks / time management
  • Understanding of digital platforms and their use like Microsoft office, teams, google drive
  • Manufacturing HS program launch experience
