What you offer?


This Y program is an innovative, evidence-based, youth-informed, early intervention program for youth experiencing mild to moderate anxiety and/or depression by focusing on providing fundamental emotional and social support.

The Mental Wellness Facilitator reports to the Senior Manager in Employment Services.

This position will provide leadership and supervision to the program and ensure positive, professional communication with clients on an ongoing basis.


Some of the tasks of this position include:

  • Engage young people in early-intervention mental wellness support.
  • Support participants who experience mildtomoderate anxiety to learn effective skills to cope with their symptoms.
  • Educate participants in introductory level knowledge and practice of the tools/strategies from the main concepts of ACT and mindfulness.
  • Create a safe environment for participants to connect with others who have similar experiences.
  • Complete an intake and assessment of program applicants to determine mildmoderate anxiety
  • Cofacilitate the 7session program and individual followup sessions
  • Where appropriate, refer applicants and participants for additional support by contacting relevant community agencies
  • Communicate regularly with the YMCA Hub including completing a postprogram report

What qualifications and abilities are we looking for?

Education

  • Higher level education in mental health or counselling related fields (such as a master's in counselling or Social Work)
  • Equivalent combination of experience and education is required (i.e. BSW and 3 years experience in the field)

Language

  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written

Experience, Abilities & Skills

  • Experience working with youth years of age) experiencing mildtomoderate anxiety and mood problems
  • Experience facilitating mental wellness/psychoeducational groups
  • Minimum of 2 years experience conducting intakes and assessments
  • Ability to recognize mental health signs and symptoms beyond the mildtomoderate spectrum and to provide referrals to appropriate medical and community agencies
  • Excellent administrative skills

Additional Requirements:


  • Applicants must already have a valid permit to work in Canada.
  • Criminal Reference Check for the Vulnerable Sector, not more than 6 months old is required
  • As a condition of employment, in accordance with the COVID19 Vaccination Requirement Policy for Staff and Volunteers, you are required to provide proof that you are fully vaccinated again
