    Intended job posting audienceReporting to the Member of Parliament, the Communications & Community Outreach Coordinator is responsible for developing and providing expert input on communications strategies, products, and events. Operationally speaking, the position leads communications campaigns and handles all communications and ridinglevel coordination of activities on behalf of the Member of Parliament.
This role offers a competitive salary and benefits package through the Public Service Health Care and Dental Care Plan. Travel may be required; occasional long hours and some weekends.


Duties and responsibilities

  • Manages the Member's local agenda, reviews and discusses commitments and plans. Coordinates meetings and events, and updates the Member as appropriate.
  • Leads the strategic direction of communications, outreach, and community and stakeholder engagement.
  • Preparation of digital and print communications products
  • Responsible for outreach and relationshipbuilding with community stakeholders, including but not limited to youth and senior organizations, cultural and ethnic associations, small businesses, and advocacy groups
  • Coleads event planning
  • Provides onsite support at funding announcements, roundtables, and community engagement activities
  • Captures digital (photo, video) content at community events for use in external communications products (social media, website, mail products, etc.)
  • Leads social media content creation, including video editing, and supervises the Member's social media accounts; oversees Member's website
  • Scans news sources and social media and flag issues, news, and events for the Member
  • Attends meetings with and/or on behalf of the Member
  • Develops timely communications, such as press releases, media advisories, media lines, and formal remarks
  • Acts as media liaison for the Member; sets up interviews and builds relationships with local media
  • Generates certificates, letters, and correspondence as required
  • Performs other related duties within the scope of the position

  • Exceptional judgment and interpersonal skills, and ability to exercise diplomacy when interacting with the public and stakeholders
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills with an ability to write clearly and concisely
  • Strong critical thinking skills, attention to detail and problemsolving abilities
  • Good grasp of the Canadian parliamentary system and federal political issues
  • Familiarity with Yukon culture, geography, political landscape and current issues
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite
  • High degree of selfmotivation to learn and to take initiative

Education and experience

  • Postsecondary degree in Political Science, Communications, or equivalent is an asset, OR an acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience
  • Experience working in an office setting
  • French language proficiency an asset
