In our commitment to responsible fiduciary oversight, the Foundation is seeking an outstanding financial accounting professional to join our small, high-energy team as
Manager, Finance and Administration.



About the Role


Reporting to and working collaboratively with the Chief Executive Officer, the
Manager, Finance and Administration is responsible for expertly managing the Foundation's operational and financial systems and is focused on success through a consultative and inclusive approach.

This role does not have direct reports.

Principal areas of focus will include:

Financial Planning and Forecasting

  • Managing preparation of budgets and forecasts, performance measures, internal controls and processes, and variance reports.
  • Leading annual audit processes with external audit partners.
  • Effectively monitoring Foundation investments within established and approved policies and guidelines with external investment partners.
  • Managing cash flows.
  • Managing relations with external audit and investment financial partners.
  • Participating in strategic planning and operational oversight.

Financial Reporting and Analysis

  • Providing CEO with accurate and concise financial reporting and expert recommendations.
  • Evaluating and managing risk.
  • Preparing periodic and yearend financial statements.
  • Preparing reports for Board and CEO as required.

Billing, AR/AP and Tax Management

  • Ensuring compliance in all jurisdictions pertaining to charitable organizations.
  • Completing all bookkeeping functions, accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Completing all mandatory legislative financial reporting.
  • Completing all statutory remittances.
  • Managing banking relations and requirements.

Process Development

  • Leading the organizational budget, processes and controls.
  • Managing HR systems to ensure efficient and consistent practices as the organization scales.

Board and Committee Support and Gallery Relation

  • Expertly supporting the work of the Board's Audit, Finance and Investment Committee.
  • Liaising with National Gallery of Canada's financial team and overseeing biannual fund transfers.

Key Requirements

  • Knowledge of fund accounting and investment monitoring.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA or other).
  • 3+ years of experience in financial management with progressive financial responsibility, preferably within the charitable sector.
  • Solid proficiency in QuickBooks Pro and Excel.
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting principles and all statutory legislation and regulations for Canadian nonprofit and charitable organizations.
  • Experience reporting at a Board level, with polished presentation style.
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written), including the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated high degree of initiative.
  • Adept working at both operational and strategic levels.
  • High degree of professionalism and desire to work collaboratively within our team.

Work Schedule and Details
The Foundation team works in our office on a rotating schedule. Incumbent is required to live and work in Ottawa, Canada, with availability to work Monday-Friday, 9am to 5pm. Schedules may change based on operational/event needs.

This is a regular, full-time position commencing as soon as possible. The salary is $80,000 per annum.

As a Permanent, Full-Time Employee, you will participate in the Foundation's benefit program, which includes:

  • Paid Sick Leave, Vacation and Personal Leave

Condition of Employment
Secret Security Clearance is a requirement - this factor is not used at the pre-selection stage. Eligibility to work in Canada is mandatory.
