$42k per annum


Vacation: 3 weeks per calendar year

Responsibilities
As Bar Manager, you are responsible for all aspects of the bar operation at Lynn Valley Legion Branch 114. You will report to the Branch President, or in their absence, to Table Officer(s) designated by the President. The Bar Manager will directly supervise all the bartender staff.


Leadership/Customer Service:


  • Lead by example, fostering a positive and inclusive team environment. Motivate and inspire staff to deliver exceptional service and uphold Legion values.
  • Help all bartenders resolve issues that arise during the course of bar operation. Issues that cannot be resolved at Bar Manager level to be elevated to the Branch President. Recruit bartenders, with Executive approval, as necessary.
  • Provide outstanding customer service, engaging with patrons to ensure their needs are met and creating a welcoming atmosphere. Address any issues or concerns with empathy and professionalism

Bar Operations:


  • Oversee all aspects of bar operations, including inventory management, ordering supplies, and maintaining cleanliness and safety standards. Ensure efficient and smooth bar service during events and regular operating hours.
  • Maintain daily logs and incident report journals and ensure that staff are knowledgeable in their uses and importance
  • Create an equitable bar schedule for all staff that ensures expected bar service for Branch members and their guests.
  • Establish daily/weekly open/close procedures and develop control sheets to be completed by staff. In cooperative consultation with the Executive, is responsible for product selection, daily/weekly specials, and any new products to be offered at the bar.
  • Marketing of specials and sporting events, and promoting the Legion as a whole.
  • Networking with suppliers, local breweries and local community groups.
  • Perform nightly closeout procedures, either personally, or by ensuring that bar staff are trained and knowledgeable in the established procedures.
  • Is primary contact for all local area beer/wine/specialty sales reps to ensure that the Branch takes advantage of any/all promotions that would pertain to the Branch.
  • Primary bar contact for Squirrel updates, maintenance and troubleshooting with Admin Manager.
  • Other sundry duties as they arise in order to ensure the bar operates as expected.

Financial Management:


  • Monitor and manage bar budgets, expenses, and revenue streams. Implement strategies to maximize profitability while maintaining affordability for patrons.
  • Purchase all stock, including beer, spirits, nonalcoholic beverages, condiments, etc. Provide all receipts, purchase orders, etc for reconciliation and repayment to the Administration Manager (Admin Manager).
  • Ensure the use of Branch credit card whenever possible.
  • Work with Admin Manager to ensure that all cash out procedures are followed/balanced as required and that all discrepancies are resolved quickly and correctly. (Any procedural amendments are to be approved by the Executive).
  • Ensure that Admin Manager has all the information required to provide updates on bar operations and answer questions that may arise from the Branch Treasurer.

Compliance:


  • Ensure that all bar staff have taken courses and are certified in Serving It Right (SIR) and the required Food Safe certificate program as may be required by Vancouver Coastal Health and that all up to date certifications are on file.
  • Ensure that all bar staff are BC Lottery Corporation (BCLC) trained & certified and that copies of up to date certifications are on file
  • Ensure that all bar staff are dispensing products in the prescribed serving sizes to ensure that BC/Yukon Command (BCYC) recommended %'s are being met. Take appropriate steps to keep overpouring, spillage and giveaways to a minimum.
  • Remain up to date on current rules and regulations under the Liquor Control Act. Ensures that all bar staff are properly trained in established bar operating procedures and applicable regulations under the Liquor Control Act. (Ultimate responsibility falls to the Executive).
  • In conjunction with the Admin Manager, annually diarize and complete license renewals, initiate payroll signup for staff, and maintain updated staff contact info.

Qualifications:


  • Proven experience in similar role, with minimum 3 years in bar management/hospitality leadership.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize in a fastpaced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal/communication skills, with the ability to effectively lead a diverse team.
  • Sound knowledge of bar operations, including inventory control, cocktail prep, and industry trends.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation and regulations governing alcohol service and safety.
