Description
Parlee McLaws LLP is a well-established Alberta law firm with 140 years of experience. We are looking for an experienced Legal Assistant (Floater) to join our team. This role is located at our downtown Edmonton office.


Our Legal Assistant Floaters have the opportunity to learn with a variety of lawyers and a variety of practices which means that no two days are the same.

The opportunities for learning in this role are endless.

The hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8:00AM - 4:30PM (37.5 hours/week), and is an in-office position.


Position Overview:


  • Complete legal assistant duties for assigned teams in any of Parlee's practice areas, which include but are not limited to: litigation, business services, and intellectual property
  • Draft correspondence, court, and financing legal documents
  • Prepare a variety of legal documents
  • Manage incoming workflow from a team of lawyers/paralegal
  • Work productively with a variety of personalities, workstyles, and processes
  • Calendar management including coordinating and scheduling meetings
  • Preparation of accounts and time entry
  • General administrative tasks including office and file management
  • Other tasks as required

Requirements:


  • 5 or more years of previous experience as a Legal Assistant in same or similar practice areas as Parlee McLaws
  • Postsecondary education from a recognized Legal Assistant/Paralegal program
  • Highly reliable, adaptable, and possesses professional demeanor
  • Builds collaborative working relationships
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accurate, highquality work
  • Understanding of basic accounting principles (experience with Elite 3E or Elite Enterprise is a benefit)
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Office programs
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Exhibit attention to detail and is committed to producing accurate and highquality work
  • Ability to organize, prioritize work and meet deadlines with a high degree of personal initiative
  • Must be able to handle confidential information in an ethical and professional manner
  • Ability to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently
  • Strong customer service and relationship building skills
  • Readily adapt to changing priorities and effectively work in a changing and highvolume work environment
  • Possess problem solving skills with a proactive mindset
  • Ability to collaborate within a team as well as achieve results individually
  • Must speak, read, and write English fluently
  • Experience with Worldox, Remindex, EclipseWestlaw, SpeechExec or other legal software programs are an asset
