    Plains has an immediate opening for a GIS Analyst to join our Asset Management Team. Reporting to the Manager, Asset Management, within our Operations Programs department, you will provide Geographic Information System (GIS) support to Plains' business groups based in North America and will assist in the ongoing development and continuous improvement of Plains' Enterprise GIS System. This role may be based in either Houston or Calgary and some travel will be required.

    Responsibilities:

    • Provide GIS support to the enterprise including mapping, analysis, technical support, communications, and user training.
    • Work with a team to build and maintain a functional enterprise GIS System.
    • Assist in the population and maintenance of file-based and RDBMS-based spatial data repositories including data identification, sourcing, validation, and management/
    • Build and maintain map templates, layers, and symbol sets for Plains GIS users.
    • Use ETL/Integration technology to convert between common spatial data formats and integrate existing data structures and software.
    • Maintain/correct centerline data from ILIs, alignment sheets, and other sources.
    • Complete extraction of data for various internal and external customers utilizing simple queries.
    • Assist in providing guidance and direction to engineering and GIS consulting firms.
    • Test new GIS software for its ability to fit documented workflows and user needs.
    • Generate and maintain GIS workflow and process documentation.
    • Prepare various diagrams, charts, maps, and presentation content.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in GIS discipline, certification in GIS technology / software, or comparable work experience required
    • Minimum 5 years' experience with ESRI ArcView or ArcInfo software preferred
    • Working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS Desktop and Server v10 or higher
    • Understanding of common spatial data structures, formats, and terminology including ESRI Geodatabase and Google KML
    • Thoroughly versed in cartographic / survey terminology and processing of survey files for inclusion into a GIS environment
    • Working knowledge of projections and coordinate systems
    • Experience with Python or equivalent scripting or programming languages
    • Understanding of basic SQL and enterprise RDBMS systems
    • Proficiency with MS Excel and MS Access software
    • Understanding of remote sensing principles
    • Able to work independently with limited supervision and within a team
    • Detail-oriented with proven analytical skills
    • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills
    • Proven organizational and time management skills
    • Cleared criminal history (background) and satisfactory reference checks
    • Compliance with the company's Drug & Alcohol Policy including pre-employment testing (for Houston-based employees)
