    Amendment:

    Effective January 1st, 2024 the salary range for this position is $1,658.54 to $2,067.58 per week in compliance with OPSEU Unified Bargaining Unit collective agreement provisions.

    The new rates, effective retroactive to January 1, 2024, were recently confirmed and dates for implementation of the new salary rates are still to be determined.

    What can I expect to do in this role?

    You will:


    • act as the key communications contact for assigned areas of responsibility
    • develop and implement a wide range of high-profile, internal and external communications projects, including events
    • advise the Minister, Deputy Minister and senior staff in the planning and implementation of communication strategies, issues management, media and public relations activities
    • research and write or coordinate the writing of a wide range of communications products

    How do I qualify?

    Communications planning skills:



    • knowledge of communications principles and practices, journalism and public relations
    • demonstrated strategic planning and conceptualization skills to proactively manage assigned portfolios
    • ability to develop complex, short and long-term communications strategies and plans
    • exceptional political acuity to develop communication strategies that are consistent with changing direction

    Project and time management skills:




    • project management skills to lead large-scale projects and events
    • proven coordination skills to successfully achieve goals and deliverables
    • time management skills and the ability to work under pressure with frequently changing and competing priorities

    Communication skills:




    • written communication skills to develop and prepare complex communication products including news releases, fact sheets, speeches, writing for the web and social media, etc.
    • oral communication, consultation and presentation skills to provide advice to senior management and act as communications expert on ministry and inter-ministerial teams
    • interpersonal, conflict management and partnership skills to develop long-term relationships with clients

    Judgement and computer skills:




    • proficiency using a computer and associated software such as word-processing, e-mail, database and Internet/Intranet
    • judgement when dealing with politically sensitive and contentious issues
