Description
We are currently looking to add an experienced
Yard Supervisor to our Edmonton Yard Operations team. Our team is made up of Labourers, Equipment Operators, Liquid Transloaders, Drivers, Foreman, Health & Safety, and Office Staff.

The
Yard Supervisors are responsible for the day-to-day coaching & direction of the transload employees in the safe and productive yard performance in the transfer and handling of liquid, bulk, and construction materials into/from rail to over the road trailing equipment.

The Supervisors report to the Manager Transload Operations and works closely with Safety, Fleet Repair, Dispatch and Customer Service team members.


This facility operates 7 days a week 24 hours a day with rotating shifts with 2 Yard Supervisors and 4 Foreman to lead and direct the employees and operations on their respective shifts.

The Supervisors work 12-hour day shift, with a 2 & 3 days on/days off schedule.


Position Responsibilities:


  • Coaching and directing, in collaboration with the Yard Foreman, all yard operations staff with a Safety 1st approach, by preparing shift assignments, providing support for difficult or new tasks, cross training staff, etc.
  • Supervising throughout the day the various functions within the Yard including liquid and dry bulk commodity rail transfers, loading, and offloading of commodities for over the road transportation in bulk tankers, deck, etc. based on the commodity, ensuring the standard operating procedures and best practices are being followed.
  • Coordinating and updating dispatch and customer service staff of work in progress and complete necessary documents.
  • Providing input and ideas, as part of a team, with the Manager, Transload Operations to identify improvements in the operations and handling procedures including process, capital, and labour.
  • Liaising with and assisting drivers and contractors on site to aid and respond to questions regarding trailers, dunnage, load securement, etc.
  • Fostering a strong workplace culture to promote safety, people, and best practices by integrating and identifying standard operating procedures, safety, training, human resources and other Kleysen programs, policies, and procedures into the daytoday Yard operations.
- _ At times, there may be tasks that may require respiratory protection and may require to be part of face to be clean shaven to ensure sufficient protection._


What We Look For:


  • Comprehensive knowledge of operational procedures related to various tasks in transloading, equipment operation, loaders/forklift, locomotive, pumps, augers, belts and conveyors, etc. specific to yard operation and rail/truck operations.
  • Working knowledge of the range of products handled at the facility (liquid, steel/lumber/etc.) is an asset.
  • Effective leadership skills in effective communication and direction of work to employees and demonstrate ability to delegate and train shift crew.
  • Strong training and commitment to Safety.
  • Good work attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Demonstrated attendance and ability to meet shift rotation schedule and overtime as maybe required.
  • Training and experience in forklift and loaders is a requirement. As well as the ability to successfully complete locomotive training (training paid for by Kleysen).
  • Must be in good physical shape to assist yard staff as required, with an ability to lift up to 50 lbs and able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work (_no public transportation available_)
