Canadian National Railway Company (CN) is looking for a highly motivated person to fulfill a full-time (40h/week) Intern, Bridges and Structures
position in Toronto, Ontario
for summer 2023 (May - August).

Job Summary
The Intern, Bridges and Structures (B&S) is responsible for providing support to the Assistant Chief, Bridges and Structures.

The role is accountable for coordination and support of B&S projects as well as compiling and creating presentation materials on the &S inventory and conditions.

Assessment of data and potential report formats for safety initiatives will be an area of focus.

Additionally, the position may assist Managers in coordinating and administering the B&S Maintenance objectives, including but not limited to performing preliminary designs and assessments, drawing preparation, estimating, project tracking and documentation, as well as reporting.

Major Responsibilities

  • Assist in compiling estimates for long term upgrades and capital needs for purposes of reporting and presentation to other teams within CN
  • Assist with coordination of B&S projects including drawing assembly and distribution through execution reporting
  • Assist the design and rating functions as required
  • Suggest and review possible development of tools to facilitate safety reporting and assessment information management
  • Assist with administration of the Strategic Bridge Initiative, including cost estimates, project documentation, field assessment and reporting

Requirements:


  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, and SharePoint)
  • Must be able to travel
  • Knowledge of basic programming*Education
  • Civil Engineering foundation courses such as Statics, Structural Analysis, Structural Material, and Engineering Drafting
  • Working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (minimum 3 years completed) with a Major in Structures
  • Any experience/education/skills/knowledge for these above would be considered as an asset
