Position Summary:


The Youth Enrichment Academy provides meaningful interventions to a priority population of youth ages 11 to 14 (middle years) to strengthen social, academic and emotional skills.

The Youth Outreach Worker supports the program through input into design, planning and evaluation under the supervision of the Program Coordinator.

The Youth Outreach Worker works closely with youth mentors (near-peer mentors) and provides direction for day to day activities.


Responsibilities:


  • Runs regular programming, with nearpeer mentors, using antioppression framework and respecting equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Works with volunteers to support tutoring and mentorship aspects of YEA
  • Assists with volunteer recruitment, training, and appreciation as required.
  • Assists with planning and implementation of program participant and "near peer" youth mentor recruitment strategy
  • Assist with report writing and evaluation using defined metrics per the funder requirements
  • Maintains attendance records and other stats of the program progress using Excel and other equivalent software
  • Provide updates to Children Family and Youth leadership team on trends in youth culture and any risktaking behaviours in the Regent Park areas
  • Supports the Coordinator in writing reporting documents for funding purposes
  • Updates YEA program website on a regular basis, including videos, photos, text, and schedules
  • Outreach to community members, TCHC, schools, and other stakeholders as needed to recruit new clients to the program
  • Report back to families on our progress and develop meaningful focus groups
  • Liaise with partners on a regular basis to ensure successful relationship building and program connections to external stakeholders
  • Liaises with partners and communicates to ensure accountabilities are mutually met and achieved
  • Assists in obtaining partner support for giftsinkind and volunteer hours

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Education: Child and Youth Worker (CYW) designation preferred, with a postsecondary degree in Child and Youth Work;
  • Some experience working with middleyears aged population (grades 68), preferably from vulnerable communities;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with atrisk youth facing multiple barriers, preferably from Regent Park areas;
  • Technology skills: the incumbent must be able to demonstrate working experience with the following software, platforms or apps:
  • Canva, Adobe, Illustrator, etc.
  • Google design/publishing software
  • Design of graphics, videos and audio for posting on social media platforms and website
  • Zoom or equivalent telecommunication tools
  • Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and other social media tools and its innerworkings
  • Excel and comparable spreadsheet functions for data configuration
  • Other new emerging software/platforms as required
  • Strong communication skills and written English (for report writing purposes);
  • This position will require evening and occasional weekend work;
  • Ability to work collaboratively within and across teams;
  • Understanding of Antioppression principles;
  • Ability to work effectively with people of various cultural, age and economic backgrounds
  • Knowledge of the Regent Park area and issues affecting families in the Regent and Moss Park communities
  • Must have up to date COVID vaccination for the safety of staff and clients
