Labourers to perform tasks involving physical labour at buildings and construction projects.
This role operates a variety of tools, equipment and vehicles; prepares and maintains a clean work area and site; and provides support to carpenters and sub-trades as required.
The Labourer reports to the Site Foreperson.THE ROLE:
RESPONSIBILITIES and ACCOUNTABILITIES
Communicate with the Site Foreperson, Assistant Site Supervisor, Site Supervisor and Project Manager on any and all issues that could be detrimental or create new opportunities.
An environment that is conducive to teamwork and that delivers a high level of customer satisfaction, revenue growth, and profitability.
Perform tasks involving physical labour at building and construction project sites.Work outside and perform physically demanding tasks.
Perform heavy lifting of up to 50 pounds.
Utilize safe work practices and comply with DHD and WorkSafe BC safety policies and regulation.
Operate for a variety of tasks including drilling and cutting, hand and power tools of all types including air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, small mechanical hoists, surveying and measuring equipment, and a variety of other equipment and instruments in a safe and conscientious manner.
Operate light, medium and heavy vehicles and special construction and maintenance equipment including, but not limited to, power washers, line trimmers, lawn mowers, backpack blowers, jack hammers, tampers, concrete vibrators, concrete/asphalt coring and cutting equipment and any other special equipment as required.
Maintain a clean and safe work area including tasks such as sweeping, mopping and other janitorial duties; garbage clean up and runs; sorting materials and recycling; and helping with deliveries.
Support sub-trades in completing their tasks as required.
Assist Site Foreperson or Assistant Site Supervisor in monitoring and managing equipment and vehicle maintenance schedules to ensure all vehicle and equipment maintenance is completed in a timely manner.
Complete other duties that may be assigned from time to time by the Site Foreperson, Assistant Site Supervisor or Site Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- A high school diploma, with a certificate or additional education in construction an asset;
- Minimum 1 year of experience in general construction preferred;
- Minimum general carpentry skills;
- Experience operating telehandlers and manlifts required, with skid steers and miniexcavators an asset;
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver's license;
Skills
Comprehensive knowledge of:
- WorkSafe BC regulations, processes and safety practices;
- General construction;
Proven skill in:
- Safe work practices;
- Performing physically demanding tasks;
- Operating hand and power tools of all types;
- Operating light, medium and heavy vehicles and special construction and maintenance equipment;
- Interpersonal relationship building;
Demonstrated ability to:
- Work independently or with little supervision, carrying out tasks efficiently;
- Lift up to 50 pounds;
- Maintain quality and attention to critical details;
- Collaborate with a variety of stakeholders to produce highquality results;
