Junior Assistant Manager

Permanent, Full Time


About the Job:


Your Accountabilities:


  • Complete leadership training in safety, operations, growing, distribution, quality, finance and Human Resources.
  • Quickly take on responsibility and begin leading parts of the team.
  • Learn by doing, including handson work with plants.
  • Supervise crews and take responsibility for safety, quality and productivity.
  • Progressively assume responsibilities of the Assistant Manager, Operations role over time, including production planning and execution, labour planning and targets, cost analysis, and implementing process changes.
  • Contribute to a safe work environment for all employees through active observations, hazard reporting, coaching on relevant health and safety best practices, and leading by example while ensuring all employees are adhering to company policies and guidelines.
  • Tackle projects as assigned by Farm Management and the VP of Operations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Embrace a positive attitude and enthusiasm for learning. Be open to new ideas and approaches, and constantly seek ways to improve your skills and knowledge.
  • Actively develop strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Enhanced problem solving and analytical skills to identify issues, analyze data, and generate solutions. Practice critical decision making and resourcefulness.
  • Continuous improvement mindset seeks ways to optimize processes, eliminate waste and streamline operations. Experience in Lean, Six Sigma is an asset.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office Suite is an asset, along with the ability to learn industryspecific software systems.
  • Previous supervisory experience in a manufacturing or horticultural environment is an asset.
  • Horticulture, Forestry or Environmental diploma/degree preferred.
  • Ability to adapt and prioritize multiple tasks and situations with effective time management skills.
  • Valid class G Ontario driver's license.
  • This role will require the flexibility to long hours in an outdoor environment in Spring and Summer, including evenings and weekends as seasonal peaks require.
  • This position requires extended periods of walking and standing, with bending and squatting at various times required, as well as the ability to lift 50lbs and work in various weather conditions and environments.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
