Simon Fraser University (SFU) - Burnaby, Surrey, and Vancouver (alternating locations)

Compensation:
$50,000- $56,000 (commensurate with experience)

Hours of Work:
~ 40 hours per week

Work Term: 1 year with a preference for ability to renew

About the Role:


The Programs Manager is responsible for the management and development of all of Embark Sustainability's annual programming while supporting student-leadership and development in various stages of involvement at the organization.

The Programs Manager approaches program design, delivery, and evaluation with an intersectional and equity-focused lens.

This role is well-suited for an innovative, energetic, and detailed planner with strong people skills.

Building on work in previous years, the year will bring a suite of new and deeper partnerships which will bring forward innovative programming.

The Programs Manager will be at the forefront in bringing to life Embark Sustainability's Theory of Change in advancing food justice and climate equity through applied learning opportunities in partnerships and collaboration with internal and external groups as well as with student-staff.

You are also responsible for the evaluation of programs and events so that Embark Sustainability can continually evolve to most effectively serve its members.


The Programs Manager acts as a mentor and is responsible for the growth and development of the Priority Area team and Embark Sustainability's suite of volunteers.

Over the span of two semesters, you will be working with two part-time student staff to achieve their individual project goals in alignment with Embark Sustainability's three-year strategic plan, while highlighting opportunities for growth through personal one-on-ones.

On an on-going basis, the Programs Manager recruits volunteers and seeks to involve them in areas of interest. It's important that you have strong interpersonal skills and to first and foremost lead with empathy.

This position reports to and works closely with Embark Sustainability's Executive Director.

As part of a small team, you will work closely and in collaboration with the Design & Communications Manager, Gardens Manager, and Community Development Manager.


Responsibilities:


Program Planning & Development

  • Develop and implement both Embark Sustainability's staple and novel programs in alignment with the organization's vision, mission, and priority areas
  • Keep pulse on and assess interest from membership to inform program delivery
  • Set goals and objectives for programs in alignment with goals identified by the organization's annual operational plan
  • Develop an annual programs calendar
  • Propose budgets and develop reasonable timelines for program delivery, including completing Marketing Project files
  • Work alongside and coordinate with partners and collaborators when appropriate
  • Monitor progress and evaluate outcomes of all programs, including qualitative and quantitative reporting of programs
  • Lead Embark Sustainability's outreach activities and passive programming across all SFU campuses, including tabling and Games Lounge

Team Management and Support

  • Manage and supervise parttime student staff
  • Support student staff coordinators with planning, organization, and execution of events
  • Support the professional development of student staff coordinators and volunteers in key skills, including but not limited to group facilitation

Internal and External Collaboration

  • Work closely with Embark Sustainability staff to embed a culture of continuous learning, building member literacy
  • Collaborate with the team in annual operational planning and goal setting
  • Advise the Board of Directors as needed
  • Build community relationships that support Embark Sustainability's membership learning goals and curiosities and expand perspectives reflected in programs
  • Seek and arrange opportunities to reach out to groups in the community (e.g. tabling at events); organize volunteers and resources for such events
  • Communicate with relevant partners about upcoming programs and events
  • Ensure materials and social media content reflects upcoming programming

Administrative

  • Recruit, train and manage volunteers
  • Develop & update onboarding materials
  • Participate in the writing of annual reports and website updates
  • Prepare materials for outreach/tabling and all events
  • Book rooms, orders catering, or prepare virtual logistics as needed
  • Occasional use of Embark Sustainability's social media
