WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?


As a Co-op Legal Assistant, you will provide essential administrative and research support to the legal team within a law firm, corporate legal department, or governmental organization.

Your primary responsibilities will include assisting attorneys and paralegals with various tasks related to case management, legal research, document preparation, and client communications.

This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals pursuing a career in law to gain practical experience and contribute to the efficient functioning of the legal team.


WHAT WILL YOU DO?

  • Legal Research: Conduct legal research using online databases, libraries, and other resources to gather relevant case law, statutes, and regulations.
  • Document Preparation: Assist in drafting and formatting legal documents, including contracts, briefs, memos, pleadings, and correspondence.
  • Case Management: Help manage case files, maintain databases, and track deadlines to ensure timely completion of tasks and compliance with court orders.
  • Client Interaction: Communicate with clients and external parties under the guidance of attorneys to obtain information, schedule meetings, and answer general inquiries.
  • Administrative Tasks: Handle administrative duties such as photocopying, scanning, faxing, mailing, and maintaining office supplies.
  • Confidentiality: Maintain the confidentiality and security of sensitive legal information in accordance with ethical and legal standards.
  • Compliance: Stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and industry developments to assist in ensuring compliance and best practices.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, and other legal staff to deliver efficient and highquality legal services.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

  • Enrollment in or recent completion of a lawrelated degree program or paralegal certification.
  • Basic understanding of legal principles, procedures, and terminology.
  • Proficiency in conducting legal research using online databases and resources.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Proficiency in using standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks in a fastpaced environment.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and respect for confidentiality.
  • Willingness to learn and take direction from senior legal staff.
