Position Description:


We are seeking a highly motivated new member to join our team, manage the lab and assist with experiments (
Lab
Research Project Manager).

The successful incumbent will join a high functioning and collaborative lab with research focused on kidney development and disease modeling using transgenic mouse models and kidney organoids.

This job requires a highly organized individual with outstanding time management, excellent communication, and advanced technical skills able to support trainees and the PI.

They will assist in research, training, and manage various aspects of the lab.


Our Research Project Manager will play an integral supervisory role in providing continuity of research and managing the lab to ensure efficient and effective productivity, encouraging research excellence and integrity.


Here's What You'll Get To Do

  • Support various research projects within the group. Projects focus on the investigation of signaling pathways involved in renal development, and will involve mouse genetics, CRISP/Cas9mediated gene targeting, nextgeneration sequencing (i.e. RNA Sequencing, singlecell RNA sequencing) using mouse tissue and/or iPSgenerated organoids.
  • Take ownership on laboratory safety including training, updating biorisk permits, performing laboratory inspections and participating on program wide safety committees.
  • Manages all aspects of the laboratory animal colony, including animal husbandry, updating animal use protocols, breeding strategies, animal transfers, purchases, training, genotyping, and coordinating with mouse facility staff.
  • Training others in the lab on animal husbandry/colony maintenance (i.e. weaning, ear notching, genotyping, etc.)
  • Responsible for preparation and update of regulatory protocols, including REB submissions and animal use protocols.
  • Responsible for the organization of the laboratory and oversight of ordering supplies (inventory management). General lab support through identification of needed supplies, stocking/aliquoting/storing of supplies.
  • Maintaining equipment (e.g., PCR machines, pH meters, scales, microscopes, BSC, incubators, fume hoods, computers, pipettes, water baths, etc.)
  • Proficient (teaching level knowledge) in basic molecular biology laboratory techniques including nucleic acid handling (purification, amplification), immunohistochemistry, microscopy, protein handling, western blotting.
  • Performs advanced, highly technical work of a professional nature, and provides leadership within the research group on technical matters; supervises and takes responsibility for some aspects of the laboratory research. Provides a continuity of research.

  • Leads self and peers by conduct and example.
  • Contributes toward development of guidelines, procedures and standards.
  • Provides direct supervision for lowerclassified staff.

Communication

  • Interacts frequently with internal contacts and occasionally with external contacts.
  • Prepares discussions and status reports on normal business processes in written, verbal or graphical form as required.
  • Presents the outcome of research projects to the department, members of the research community, conferences, and international meetings
