To support us on our journey, Sinai Health is looking for an experienced individual to lead our Accounts Payable function across the organization.

The Accounts Payable Manager is responsible for managing and leading all aspects of the payables function for Mount Sinai Hospital.

This role will be tasked with evolving and maturing our Accounts Payable function to operate at leading practice performance.


The Accounts Payable Manager plays an important relationship management role with multiple stakeholders including our internal managers, suppliers and our third party logistics & procurement services provider.

As Sinai Health's ERP platform is outsourced, the Accounts Payable Manager fills a crucial role as SAP Super User, Master Data Coordinator and primary point of contact with the outsourcer on AP matters.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Manage full cycle operations and all daily activities of the Accounts Payable function
  • Coach, mentor and supervise a team of 6 employees within a unionized environment
  • Build team member capabilities through rigorous objective setting, clear roles and responsibilities, and cultivation of an environment of accountability
  • Measures efficiency and operational effectiveness by establishing key performance metrics and benchmarks and provide weekly/monthly reports to management
  • Engage as the Subject Matter Expert for Accounts Payable initiatives seeking comprehensive solutions that offer long term sustainable improvement opportunities as well as maximize resources
  • Develop, maintain and enforce policies and procedures, standards of operations and desk procedures that set clear expectations and produce consistent results for both internal and external users
  • Ensure vendor and internal stakeholder queries are handled promptly and maintain/implement processes and systems to monitor, manage and report on ageing and completion;
  • Provide accurate rolling forecasts to Treasury on upcoming payments;
  • Lead a program of proactive engagement with vendors and procurement to optimize relations, standardize terms and enhance fraud control;
  • Leads and executes monthend closing, including reconciliation of AP subledger to the general ledger control accounts;
  • Accounts Payable lead working with external and internal auditors to coordinate provision of supporting documentation and responding to inquiries as required
  • Actively participate with Sr. Management in Finance to develop and implement process improvements
  • Monitor and manage match exception reports
  • Manage the P-Card program and expense reimbursements
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Job Requirements

  • A degree from a recognized college or university
  • Sound knowledge of Canadian GAAP/PSAS, IFRS and taxation issues
  • Comprehensive understanding of the Procure to Pay process, including vendor management, 3Way match, 2Way match, invoice processing, payments processing, discounts and cash management;
  • Experience working with SAP (R3 or later) modules including Purchasing (PO/Requisition); MM (receiving) and AP;
  • Experience with P-Card programs and Concur is an asset;
  • Minimum seven (7) years of recent related experience leading/managing Accounts Payable teams;
  • Experience in leading/managing staff within a unionized environment
  • Experience leading and/or supporting change initiatives within Accounts Payable, including systems, processes and people
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, meet strict deadlines, multitask and function independently in a face paced environment
  • Experienced in coaching and mentoring a high performing AP team
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Access and database tools
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) with effective group presentation and stakeholder engagement capabilities;
  • Strong technical and analytical expertise with the ability to provide advice and guidance to other staff members and internal stakeholders
  • Ability to proactively identify issues and generate solutions by critically assessing procedures and challenging the status quo
