Grab the reins and embark on an exciting journey this summer as a Teamster at Fort Edmonton Park.

Nestled in the scenic Edmonton River Valley, you will spend your summer outside and make some new animal friends while you are at it Your success in this role will be measured by your ability to complete all work tasks in a respectful, inclusive and service-minded style.

With a focus on the City of Edmonton's Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:

  • Work with draft horses, light horses and ponies to operate pony rides and horse-drawn wagon rides
  • Perform and demonstrate teamster duties with a historical context using historically correct tools and techniques
  • Groom, clean, feed, and care for the draft animals to ensure they are presentable to the general public at all times
  • Work with oxen, cattle, sheep, pigs, and poultry
  • Ensure that the stables are kept neat and clean
  • Ensure that the wagons are in good repair and are regularly checked to ensure maximum safety for passengers
  • Provide information to the general public regarding this trade, as well as accurate historical and site information on an ongoing basis
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications:


  • Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent or higher
  • Knowledge of Western Canadian History
  • Ability to effectively deal with the public, including strong communication, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labour, working outside in all weather and environmental conditions and working in the presence of allergens like bees, pollen, animals, dust and more
  • Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as well as site specific safe work practices is a requirement for this position
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position is an asset
  • Hire is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (CRC) security clearance including Vulnerable Sector that is satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and is a requirement of this position, there may be a cost associated with this requirement

Hours of Work:
Up to 35 hours per week, 7:00 am - 11:00 pm, 7 days a week. Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays is required.

Wednesday to Sunday as the predominant work days during May to September)
