About the Role

Since its founding 55 years ago, the CCOC has grown from a single chorus to a company that expands over six choruses, reaching hundreds of young people and their families annually through its outreach initiatives, professional self-produced operas, commissioning new operas specifically for young voices, and performances and collaborations with other renown artists and leading arts organizations in Canada.


The CCOC has a deep and rich history of providing exceptional music education and performance opportunities for young people from all walks of life, and to help us preserve and share this history with our community, we are looking for a motivated, organized, and problem solving Archives Assistant to support the development of an archival collection at the CCOC as well as an online exhibit to be published on the CCOC's website.


Reporting to the Registrar and Operations Coordinator, the Archives Assistant will survey, assess, digitize, and arrange the CCOC's current collection of records.

They will also assist in the creation of a finding aid to ensure the archives are accessible to users moving forward, and will work closely with the CCOC to create an online exhibit celebrating the history of the organization and its accomplishments to be shared with stakeholders during fundraising campaigns.

Responsibilities
Under the supervision, and with the assistance of the Registrar and Operations Coordinator, the

Archives Assistant will perform the following duties:

  • Survey and assess the current state of the CCOC's archival materials and assist in the creation of an archival repository for the organization.
  • Research and select an open source archival database based on the needs of the organization as well as the ability to provide access to identified users of the archive.
  • Arrange, describe and enter records into the selected archival database.
  • Digitize a diverse collection of records including organizational documents, promotional content, photographs, and audiovisual materials.
  • Develop a finding aid for the archives.
  • Ensure the safe storage of both physical and digital records.
  • Create an online exhibit of archival materials to be published on the CCOC's website
(Wordpress).


Hours and Compensation
The role is a full-time, flexible position at $18/hr. The start date for this role is Monday, July 3,
2023 and the contract will end when the Archives Assistant completes their contracted 232 hours.

Funder Requirements

  • Be a student currently enrolled in a secondary, or post secondary institution within six months of graduation and must have reached the age of 15 upon commencement of employment proof of student enrolment must be provided prior to starting the role.
  • Be a resident of Ontario and be living in Ontario during the period of employment.
  • Be eligible to work in Canada and have a Social Insurance Number (SIN).
