Position Summary:
The Neuro is home to the Azrieli Centre for Autism Research (ACAR).

The incumbent will work closely with colleagues in order to implement the ACAR communications plan intended to inform, promote and engage internal and external publics.


Primary Responsibilities:


Collaborate closely with the Director of ACAR; Stay abreast of the communications needs of the Centre, as well as of The Neuro.

Draft articles, statements, briefings, op-eds, opinions, talking points, key messages and other written communications, ensuring a high level of consistency, accuracy, content and presentation for a wide variety of audiences; Monitor and develop engagement with the Autism community of stakeholders globally.

Help develop, support, and promote goals through creative communications, new communication initiatives, including message development, storytelling, and media outreach; Develop information, materials and products to increase understanding of Autism spectrum disorder, and public policies on Autism, promote development; Analyze information, data, statistics, trends, problems, and/or issues to support effective communication delivery, new initiatives, and the preparation of plans, strategies, reports, policies and/or other products; Manage special projects and provides guidance to Neuro stakeholders for the development and implementation of new products, tools, and systems; Liaise with in-house designers and coordinate production of communications and promotional materials, PowerPoint slides, on-line advertisements and other targeted campaigns); Liaise with other McGill and MUHC Communications teams; Liaise with and oversees the work of external service providers, (translators, designers, photographers, and developers) Conduct research for press releases, messaging documents and other media-focused materials; Assist in the preparation of briefings and speeches for the Managers and other senior administrators Draft official correspondence; Prepare electronic material; Maintain mailing lists; Answer media requests, helps program staff to prepare to speak with press, as needed; monitors media coverage, collects statistics, analyses quantitative and qualitative results; Review drafts and documents for adherence to policy, in consultation with relevant departments and units, and provides analysis and recommendations Maintains an up-to
- date archive of speeches, talking points and briefing materials, and policy positions, prepared/cleared in/by the Neuro management Website and social media management: Prepare and disseminate information concerning Autism research and clinical care, funding, events and other activities through press releases, web articles, ads, periodicals, brochures, posters, slides, and audio and visual communication media. Ensure web presence reflects best practices and is up to date. Manage social media feeds. Monitor analytics for social media and website activity in order to provide data-driven feedback and recommendations. Identify opportunities for online and social media presence in order to develop new content and expand engagement. Conceptualize and participate in design decisions.


Events Planning:

Oversees the smooth functioning of Autism focused key events in collaboration with The Neuros Events manager, promote events, and ensure quality electronic and print material.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

  • Excellent creative writing, public speaking skills, journalistic, marketing, and editing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to translate scientific, technical information and complex concepts and data into accessible, audiencespecific materials
  • Attention to detail required to prepare documents that are consistently of the highest quality in terms of content, format, and design
  • Strong organizational skills and able to handle and prioritize multiple projects
  • Ability to effectively work with and provide counsel to peers, senior management, leadership teams, and advisory groups
  • Creativity and ability to see communications and marketing issues from multiple perspectives
  • Experience in successfully implementing communications plans in a higher education, health care or nonprofit environment, as well as in events planning.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team in a fastpaced, changing, deadlineoriented environment.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and discretion, and exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Detailoriented and able to anticipate possible difficulties, troubleshoot and implement solutions.
  • Experience with photography, podcasting and/or video production an asset.
  • Experience with Drupal and HTML.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and French.

Annual Salary:
(MPEX Grade 04) $58, $73, $87,710.00
