    Role and Location


    As a Certified Water Treatment & Distribution Operator, you will support Water Treatment and Distribution Operations within our Level II & III Water Treatment & Distribution Plants. You will ensure activities align with our ISO 14001-certified Environmental Management System, helping us maintain high environmental and safety standards. You report to the Lead Hand Operator and must possess a Minimum of Level II Water Treatment Certification and Level I Water Distribution Certification.

    What you'll be responsible for


    Reporting to the Lead Hand Operator, your key accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Ensure all work complies with EPCOR's Health, Safety & Environmental (HS&E) policy, Ethics and Compliance standards, and ISO 14001 requirements.
    • Operate and troubleshoot water treatment and distribution processes; monitor and adjust to optimize water quality, quantity, and reliability.
    • Collect samples and data for regulatory and operational reporting; perform lab analyses and make process control adjustments based on SCADA and lab data.
    • Perform turbidity and chlorine testing to ensure water quality standards; operate water chlorination systems, cylinders, and valving as required.
    • Support maintenance by lubricating, adjusting, cleaning equipment, flushing and cleaning mains, and maintaining logs.
    • Install and read water meters, conduct line locates and leak detection; inspect and repair hydrants, pressure valves, and drywells; respond to frozen services and line breaks.
    • Collaborate to meet Approvals to Operate requirements; maintain quality control on records and prepare reports per guidelines.
    • Manage sludge treatment and disposal in accordance with environmental and operational standards.
    • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures and update system drawings to reflect current infrastructure.
    • Manage external contractors and ensure adherence to internal and external regulations.
    • Participate in internal and external compliance audits and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Respond professionally to client and public inquiries.

    What's required to be successful


    Qualifications

    • Grade 12 diploma (GED or equivalent). A Water and Technician Certificate/Diploma is an asset.
    • Minimum Level II Certification in Water Treatment and Minimum Level I in Water Distribution to operate EPCOR's facilities.
    • Valid Canadian Class 5 Driver's License with 6 or fewer demerits at the time of hire. EPCOR driver's permit eligibility is required; a 5-year Commercial Driver's Abstract may be requested. GDL licenses are not accepted; Class 3 with Q endorsement is an asset.

    Experience

    • 3+ years of experience in a water treatment and distribution plant, preferably at Level II or higher certified facilities.
    • Experience performing laboratory testing and quality control with strong attention to detail.
    • Proficiency with SCADA systems, process control, and chemical handling.
    • Solid understanding of Canadian HS&E regulations and ISO 14001.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis fundamentals.
    • Experience with SCADA, asset management software (e.g., IVARA, SAP), and Microsoft Office; familiarity with Power BI and HACH WIMS is an asset.

    Job Requirements and Conditions

    • Must meet physical demands, including outdoor work in all weather and wearing a half-mask respirator when required.
    • Pre-placement medical and drug/alcohol testing clearance is required; background checks may include criminal, identity, educational, and/or credit checks as applicable by law.

    Additional Information

    • Jurisdiction: Out of Scope Hourly (OSH)
    • Wage: Based on a certification-level matrix and determined at offer. Final wage/step based on wage grid at selection.
    • Hours: 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week (8:30 AM – 4:30 PM; one hour lunch). Overtime, weekends, and shift work may be required. On-call rotation may apply (30-minute response time; relocation housing assistance provided if applicable).
    • Location: Canmore, Alberta, Water Treatment Plant.
