One-year contract

Your role
ICI Alberta is seeking an experienced host for its morning radio program called Le café show. The show airs weekdays from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. in Alberta and the Northwest Territories. The position is based in Edmonton.


This role is aligned with the station's vision to engage with the community, champion new voices and showcase French-language content.

As host, you must help listeners make sense of the day's top stories while creating a space for discussion and debate.

You are a leader capable of adapting under pressure.

You must also be knowledgeable about current events, cultural issues and the French-speaking communities in Alberta and the Northwest Territories.

You have a warm, confident and spontaneous on-air presence. The ability to go live and "off script" at a moment's notice is highly valued.


As a station on-air personality, you are committed to staying connected with the news of the day, with your listeners and with your team - even after the microphone is turned off at the end of each show.

You are an excellent storyteller who is innovative and highly motivated. Your interests are wide-ranging, and you connect easily with people from all walks of life.


Reporting to the Executive Producer, Radio, for Alberta and British Columbia, you will play a role in preparing and presenting the show and will create close connections with audiences, both on air and on social media.

You will contribute substantially to the planning, design and organization of the program, proposing content ideas and conducting interviews on or off air; you will also interact with program participants.

You will participate in outreach activities and engage with the French-speaking community.


Key tasks:


  • Contribute to the planning, design and organization of programs that are typically highly formatted; ensure the preparation of material for broadcast.
  • Propose content/segment ideas, suggest and line up guests or interviewees, prepare background notes and questions, interview on or off air and provide narration and linking continuity between program segments.
  • Interact spontaneously with program participants, such as guests and interviewees, members of the audience and phonein callers.
  • Maintain your expertise in fields related to program topics.
  • Participate in public and/or community relations activities as appropriate, to promote the program(s) and/or the Corporation.
  • Present and host a weekday radio show.
  • Establish and maintain connections with audiences and the general public via various social platforms.
  • Have an excellent understanding of Radio-Canada, programming policies and Journalistic Standards and Practices.

As required, perform the following tasks:

  • Act as master of ceremonies, narrator or interviewer on variety programs.
  • Conduct research using a variety of sources.
  • Edit program material.
  • University degree in journalism/communications or equivalent.
  • Three years' comparable and relevant experience that demonstrates knowledge of the broadcasting industry and an understanding of issues, events and news affecting Alberta and the Northwest Territories.
  • Excellent reporting, interviewing and writing skills.
  • Excellent social media skills and ability to create engagement.
  • Ability to generate original content/segment ideas and creative treatments.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong presentation style, ease with live coverage and excellent interviewing skills.
  • Comfort with new and emerging technologies, and a demonstrated ability to use the same to engage the audience.
  • Ability to evaluate and analyze a broad range of regional, national and international issues.
  • Ability to tell stories with clarity.
  • Ease with live work.
  • Ability to present live events and breaking news.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamplaying skills.
  • Ability to be creative, flexible and selfmotivated.
