_This posting is for up to four hourly positions for up to 8 weeks. _


Strathcona County Recreation, Parks and Culture is currently seeking motivated and engaged individuals to work as part of our dynamic summer operations team.


Responsibilities:


  • Perform manual tasks in all parks operations and Broadmoor Public Golf Course, including use of hand power tools and equipment (shovels, rakes, screwdrivers, etc.)
  • Learn the safe operation of small equipment (string trimmers, push mowers, drills, backpack sprayers, etc.) to assist operators
  • Operate one ton trucks
  • Follow safety guidelines to keep self and others safe on the work site

Skills and Abilities

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact in a positive manner with others
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, and to maintain concentration and alertness for extended periods of time
  • Ability to adapt to new and changing situations, combined with initiative and responsibility
  • Proficiency in the use of a variety of hand and power tools
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety, MSDS and WHMIS regulations and First Aid Training
  • Ability and willingness to perform duties in inclement weather and adverse weather conditions

Qualifications

  • Minimum Grade 10 education
  • Minimum of one year driving experience
  • Experience with the use of a variety of hand and power tools
  • Previous experience as a labourer or in landscaping, construction, forestry, greenhouse, playground, golf course, agricultural, or irrigation practices would be considered an asset
  • Experience operating small equipment would be considered an asset
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification would be considered an asset

Conditions of Employment

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's licence and submission of a 5year Driver's Abstract with less than 7 demerits
  • Ability and willingness to perform various types of physical labour including moderate to heavy lifting (up to 23 kilograms), standing, bending, shoveling, etc.
  • Ability and willingness to perform duties in inclement and adverse weather conditions Ability to work a variety of shift work
