Special Events and Film Sector Co-op Student

This position will work from Abbotsford City Hall located at 32315 South Fraser Way.


What you will do:

Under the guidance of the Manager, Special Events and Community, providing customer service and support to community event organizers; answering questions, directing inquiries and connecting organizers with City events assets (ie. tents, chairs) and resources, including our Community Events Toolkit program.

Providing on-site support for City signature and internal (staff) events including Mayor's Breakfast, Canada Day etc.


Assisting Community and Special Events Coordinator in the administration of the Neighbourhood Small Grants Program, a partnership with the Vancouver Foundation and Abbotsford Community Foundation to fund small-scale projects ($500 - $1,000) that foster connectivity and engagement.


Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience:


Currently enrolled in a cooperative education program at a post-secondary institution and returning to school full-time in the subsequent academic year.

Physical ability to stand for long periods of time and lift event supplies during set up at events.

Knowledge of event-related emergency preparedness protocols.

Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Good working knowledge of software including Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe products an asset.

Knowledge of the local community.

Strong customer service focus and a desire to help others.
